Scorsese's The Irishman

You've always hated Pacino..we need more context on that because he was amazing when he was young: suave and nuanced, like his performances in Dog Day Afternoon, Panic in Needle Park, etc. His subdue and quiet intensity, along with his quiet nature, is the reason why The Godfather Part 1 & 2 worked.

Pacino and De Niro are who you think of when it comes to mafia and mob flicks. They're icons, good acting or not.

That's too broad of a brush to paint. De Niro in his prime was amazing in Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter. But yes. some of their choices later on in their careers relied on their persona (like Nicholson).

The movie is set for release in late 2019. That's all we've got so far. They're filming till early December.

So the movie will be filmed by the end of 2017. Then post production for TWO years? This can't be true?

I mean, this should be ready for December 2018. Why the extra year?

They have to deage 6 of the main cast members to how they looked in the 60's/70's and not for one or two minutes but for a large majority of the movie. It takes time especially as this tech isn't reliable just yet.

They will deage in this movie? What? WOW!

I still say this will drop in limited release December 2018, and wide in January 2019.

Yeah man. That's why folks were excited. You're not getting Old Man DeNiro for example you're getting Raging Bull/ Godfather/Taxi Driver era DeNiro in appearance.

That is why they're taking their time. To get it right. it has been perfected if you want to use it for a short time but not for multiple scenes for an extended period.

I was excited by the idea that I'd get to see the gang back together, doing what they do best. Deaging the actor doesn't suddenly make the actor that age again. The performance will be the performance of a much older actor either way.

The young Michael Douglas in Ant-Man is still the standard to me in regards to accuracy.

I thought the Kurt Russell in GotG was better. Douglas was a bit creepy to me, but Russell I just bought.

I thought Downey in Civil War and Russell in Gotg looked better than Douglas.

Yeah and all those were for like a minute or two max? What Marty wants' to do is like have huge segments of the movie as the guy's in their "peak" appearance.

And it might look damn incredible

life is full of possibilities

It might be pointless. But hey, I am the crazy guy who liked having Brando and De Niro both as Vito. :woot:

Is that an unpopular opinion?
No. I am just pointing out that this is unnecessary. There seems to be this new movement towards the idea that this new technique is "better" then just casting different actors for different ages. If anything, this kind of cheapens the whole thing for me.

Cheapens in what way? When the tech gets to the point where the line is blurred as to what's artificial, why not opt for the more "accurate" method in having the same person play their own part in younger years? I think the only exception would be playing kids/teens.

All i Know is that if this deaging works, I know who will take the Visual Effects Oscar that year. :D
