Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim's Little Life
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
March 19, 2008

Michael Cera is in final negotiations to star in Scott Pilgrim's Little Life for Universal, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Edgar Wright is directing the adventure romance, which is being produced by Marc Platt and Eric Gitter. Wright and Nina Park also are producing.

"Life" tells the story of a young slacker (Cera) who meets the woman of his dreams but finds that he can only win her heart by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends.

The project is based on the Oni Press graphic novel "Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," written by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Michael Bacall and Wright wrote the screenplay.

The studio is eyeing a fall start.

So it's basically a live-action romantic/comedy/action anime type thing, if the graphic novel is any indication.

Glad to see Micheal Cera's career is taking off.

This is gonna be awesome. My brother has all 4 volumes of Scott Pilgrim, and he is crazy about it (the author actually sent him a signed copy of Volume 4). He also loves Arrested Development, and is also obsessed with Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. This movie will be a dream come true for him, LOL!

BTW, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost MUST play the Vegan Police!

I love Michael Cera and Edgar Wright, this will be epic.

Holy crap...Edgar Wright AND Michael Cera??
Bwahahaha this sounds awesome.
I must get these graphic novels!

I would have pegged Cera as being more of a shoe-in for Scott's tag along buddy Young Niel. However, it'll be interesting to see him acting outside of his usually associated type, and I'm pretty confident that he can pull it off.

I always thought of Scott looking kind of like my brother... He even plays guitar for our church! :oldrazz:

Cera = automatic win

It sounds like the script draft in question is a little rough around the edges. Even though the comics are silly and lighthearted fun, they're not devoid of character development. A lot of the story in the books is about Scott discovering his somewhat delayed maturity, and learning to deal with Ramona's baggage. Really, at it's core Scott Pilgrim is a highly stylized illustration of the transition from adolescence to adulthood. I really hope the movie doesn't end up being just one giant action sequence of one fight after another, because that just doesn't jive with the spirit of the original story, and it doesn't sound like Edgar Wright's style, either.

I always imagined that the Scott Pilgrim movie would be closer in tone to Wright's work on the TV sitcom "Spaced." In fact, "Spaced" is largely what convinced me that he's the perfect guy for the job, since it actually has a very similar flavor and story telling style to the Scott Pilgrim comics.

Never heard of this before, but it sounds downright awesome!

I've read through volumes 1-2 and I'm going onto 3, and this movie could have great potential if done - wait, it's Edgar Wright, it WILL be done right.

This sounds good , I'll have to check out the graphic novel next time i'm in the comic store.

Has Scott Pilgrim Found His Dream Woman?

Scott Pilgirm (aka Superbad’s Michael Cera) could well have found the object of his affection in the rather lovely shape of Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The Death Proof/Die Hard 4.0 star is in negotiations to star in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the cult comic book in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novel, the movie will find Winstead will playing a delivery girl named Ramona V. Flowers, the dream woman of our 23-year-old slacker hero who must do battle with her seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart.

While this is unlikely to the meaty role that Winstead really needs following a slew of unchallenging supporting parts, Scott Pilgrim certainly sounds like it could play to her spunky girl-next-door strengths.

We’ll keep you up to date with all the latest developments as we get them.

This looks really interesting. Plus Cera+Wrights is about as dream team as it can get.

I actually sat down and read one of these books in Borders the other day. Basically a manga done in American/Canadian style. The main dude is obsessed with video games, and whenever something good/bad happens to him, it's always like, "4500 exp. points" or something like that. Crazy.

I've read Vol 3. now and this series is amazing, can't wait for the adaptation. Mary looks like Ramona a bit aswell.

Yeah in Vol. 3 he defeats another ex-boyfriend and finds an extra life, (a floating picture of his head) and he freaks out. :oldrazz::woot:

Also, Michael's friend Clark Duke would be perfect for Scott's gay roomate, Wallace Wells.

I think thats a pretty good choice.

Great choice. This thing is looking better and better, though I'm still on the fence regarding Cera, but I guess if Wright could turn Simon Pegg into a badass cop, turning Cera into Scott Pilgrim doesn't seem that big of a strech.

I seriously love the graphic novels. I flew threw all 4 about the time 4 came out late last year.
I really hope that I'm not disappointed by the movie version. Given the people working on it I have high hopes. Not too sure what I think of Winstead as Romona though, will have to wait and see.

ps. Merk, you stole my avy ... haha
