Scrapped Dark Batman show from James Tucker!

So James the Terrifically talented Tucker producer of "The Brave and Bold" series was starting work on the new Bat show and decided to take a chance on the new guy....Me! So I became character designer. I was floored as **** and had a ton of ideas for the darknight and fellers so I spent about 4 or 5 monthes cranking out a ton of of batty shizz! I did way more than any man should ever do and worked sometimes two nights straight without sleep on that stuff.

This is the sucky part> Even though all of the heads at Cartoon Network liked the designs one felt the premise (more of a "no mans land") was too dark and grim so they scrapped it. I of course thought that sucked ass but (back to good stuff) at the same time felt happy as hell that I had the one and a mill chance to work on a Bats series. Twas fun as hell!

Ugh. I actually follow this guy's work too. TDK did a billion, and a studio head is still hesitant on a dark take for the character? Idiots.

A darker Batman cartoon could have been great.

Darker than Batman:TAS, Batman Beyond, JLU or Wolverine and the X-men?

It seems like a rather dubious reason for the shows rejection. A 'Batman Family' show... (Batman: Dark Knights?) with a season long story arc starting with an earthquake and continuing with the 'No Mans Land' theme could have been handled in a tempered way.

And it could have been stunning.

I wonder if Glen Murakami was brought in to oversee the project with new designs... but then James Tucker loves a show to be light-hearted so...

... it all seems slightly bizarre.

I'm sure he does. No artist likes to repeat themselves. As brilliant as B&tB was (IMO the GREATEST animated Batman series ever) it would've sucked to see him not try to push himself in a different direction and try something new. Too bad the show isn't happening though; I would've greatly preferred this to the proposed CGI show myself. Especially since my namesake (Cass) plays a role in it.

Ah ok; I was under the impression that they were 2 separate proposals but I guess Glen Murakami will just carry on from these foundations then (with new designs obviously).

Oh man, this saddens me. I'm actually rewatching Batman: TAS right now, and I couldn't help but think about how much quality and such has dropped on cartoons these days, I blame mainly the fact that studios don't want to try doing anything "dark" and this would've been perfect, but what I just mentioned had to come into play... stupid move on their part, very good work on your part.

On another note, I disagree entirely with Castiel's statment that shows are not as good as they were now. In fact, I would argue they are superior, not just in animation but in general quality. See ATLA.
