Just because the world is coming to an end doesn't mean romance is over.

Marvel announced Wednesday via ComicsAlliance of a new Star-Lord And Kitty Pryde series launching in June to coincide with Secret Wars. Written by Legendary Star-Lord's Sam Humphries and drawn by newcomer Alti Firmansyah, Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde sees the comics power couple go from guest starring in each others' books to having a book of their own -- but it's not quite the happy couple you'd think, as the Kitty Pryde is the one from Age of Apocalypse as revealed on the cover by Yasmine Putri.

"I can say it is an action romantic comedy with some big, huge moments between the characters," says Humphries. "Emotionally and spiritually, this is the continuation of the Peter/Kitty relationship from Legendary Star-Lord — with a couple really huge twists you won’t see coming. Whatever is about to happen, Peter and Kitty won’t be able to go back to the way they were after this."

A number of questions arise from this announcement, most notably if Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde will replace Legendary Star-Lord as a monthly book when it launches in June. Marvel has also not revealed if this new series is a ongoing or miniseries.

One thing Humphries does say is that an upcoming event in the current "Black Vortex" crossover that is "monumental for their relationship."

"Peter is a scoundrel with a heart of gold. Kitty is a devoted teacher who craves adventure," the writer says of their relationship. "They bring out the hidden parts of themselves that yearn to be understood and satisfied."

Looks like a new group of runaways are on the run.

The latest in a long line of new series spinning out of Secret Wars is an all-new Runaways series by Noelle Stevenson and Sanford Greene, reports CBR. Set to launch in June, the new series will feature characters pulled from across the domains of the patchwork planet of Battleworld -- and may not necessarily be the same characters as in the original Runaways series.

"I think I can say that most of these characters I'm working with have been brought here from all over Battleworld -- the best and brightest of their domains -- so there's a real mashup of cultures, if you will," says Stevenson. "I'll leave it there for now."

The Phil Noto-drawn cover shown on CBR looks to feature Valeria Richards, daughter of the Fantastic Four's Reed and Sue Richards. Character designs posted with the announcement by Greene reveal Jubilee, Cloak, Dagger, Amadeus Cho, a young Bucky Barnes and Skaar, as well as a new character named Sanna.

The writer states that most are "established Marvel teens," but some will be a "little different" in this new series. She states the cast will be pulled from other previous superhero teams and is refering to them, informally as 'The Breakfast Club' in tribute to the 1980s teen movie of the same name.

"...they're a group who wouldn't necessarily choose to hang out with each other under normal circumstances -- and actually outright hate each other in a few cases -- but end up having to work together to survive and find out that they have more in common than they thought."

When asked about following up on the original cult-favorite series and changing the cast completely, Stevenson says that its an "honor" but says there was "a pretty big desire to reinvent" the concept.

This new Runaways series will reportedly be set, initially at least, at an as-yet-unnamed school for "exceptional kids... to be future leaders and fighters" says Stevenson. The writer is careful to distance itself from other superhuman schools at Marvel, saying "this school has nefarious uses for the perfect generation it's molding" with the cirriculum being set to encourage "aggression, competition, ruthlessness and obedience".

Stevenson says that this new Runaways series will follow a similiar premise of the original by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona of kids rebelling from a corrupt organization -- in the original it was their parents, and here in this Secret Wars tie-in it would seem to be this school. The writer declines in revealing who the exact villain (or villains) of the series will be, but says that they will have a "pretty unusual presence in the story."

Here's Sanford Greene's sketches, which CBR received from Marvel:

Is it just me or does Dagger look more like a stereotypical "ghetto black girl" in these sketches? I know she is kind of a stereotype in that she is a blonde white girl dating a black guy, but come on, she never looked like this...

Cloak & Dagger have never dated in the 616

and what is "ghetto" about that image? Im not getting why that word is being associated with her

And none of those characters in those sketches are being drawn how they typically look. Thats the point. Given the nature of this series, its likely an alternate reality version of her

so. many. ****ing. tie-ins. The sad part is that a lot of them look interesting. I wish I could afford to read this.

It's much better than the usual stuff where half looks like ****, the other half is crap and the main story is stupid.

....excuse me? What do you mean by "ghetto black girl" exactly? and Cloak and Dagger are not and never have been (to my knowledge) a couple in the 616

yeah that doesn't read as ghetto at all to me, nor black
I'd say more haute-couture-high-fashion-lady-gaga style nonsense

some of these series look pretty fun
but I don't know if I can support the event as a whole, so I may continue to wait it out and see what the MU looks like when Secret Wars is done, then if I'm not too angry about it, I'll pick up the trades

I wonder if it has anything to do with them allegedly not using Parker in the movie reboot.

Why do you believe in that rumor? Marvel has confirmed it to be Peter Parker.
We've been discussing about this in the Spiderman 2017 forum, just check it out if you still curious.

I'm happy Peter and Mary-Jane back together again after secret wars.

Has there been any news on what titles will be dropped and what titles will replace them after Secret Wars?

The only thing that bothers me about the idea of a reboot is that it would mean they'd start retelling origin stories and classic plot hooks and usually those just aren't as good as the origin. DC really suffered from that and don't want to see it happen here.

Thanks! Good to know. :yay:

Hope we soon learn more. I currently have a subscription for Amazing Spider-man and Avengers and would like to know what replaces them.

Soo, I just saw the preview for DC's convergence

Are the two companies really doing the same exact f***ing event??

That's just terrible
If I didn't know better, I'd say maybe the two companies would be merged by the end of it
but that'll never happen, so instead, this is just really awful f***in' timing

Because this whole thing is a mess.

Uncanny Inhumans? Pathetic. They need to stop being a parasite to the appeal of the X-men.

I honestly think Marvel publishing's overall goal is to drive out most long time fans. All of this crap will have me sitting out most of it. I hope the new customers it generates makes up for those of us stepping away.
