Wouldn't it have been more fitting to say Mystique was caught while impersonating Senator Kelly and not Secretary Trask?

Would have resolved and given explanation on what happened with Sen Kelly as he had been dead for sometime now..

I think that following the confusion of Alcatraz, it will be discovered that Mystique had a hand in the death of Senetor Kelly....this will lead to public outrage, and will bring about the order of Trask to but forward his project wide-awake (which he would have started right after X3) and send out Sentinels...leading to a Days of Futures past senario.

She would be impersonating him, just as she impersonated him following the real senators death to position herself as a spy in the united states government, and to learn of any projects against mutants. Such as a cure for mutation. The point is the line of how she was caught should of referenced her impersonating senator kelly stealing information and then the government realizing that the real senator has been dead for a long time now

Since Trask was the new President's number one guy in charge of mutant control....it seemed perfectly reasonable to me that she would impersonate him. That's how she gathers info for Magneto.

Bruce Davidson, the actor who played Senator Kelly, wasn't back, probably because Bryan Singer wasn't on the picture, and they are friends. And Mystique impersonating Trask makes sense.

Yes, but remember - the general public did not know that because Mystique took his place almost immediately after his demise.

It's another one of those inconsistencies from 2 to 3 that just bugged me.
