Sequels Or Remakes To Bad Movies That Turned Out To Be Good Movies

What are some sequels or remakes to bad or critical maligned movies that turned out to be genuine course corrections, and a major improvement over the predecessor/original? Wrath Of Kahn and The Suicide Squad comes to mind.

Every subsequent movie completely ignored Wolverine Origin happened as a movie, so James Mangold had more freedom there.

Apparently Fast 5 and following are better than movies 2-4.

The Dark World is a boring movie that isn't bad, but I'll count Thor: Ragnarok for being a massive improvement.

Revenge of the Sith is easily better than the two prequels preceding it. On that note, let's just say the original Star Wars trilogy cause to have prequels, they need to count as sequels to the newer films telling older tales.

The Wolverine has a very silly ending but it's still a much better film than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Crazy how that trilogy, even though it's a very loose trilogy, starts off with one of the worst CBMs of all time and ends with one of the greatest.

I think the more interesting part of this question are remakes that turned a bad film into a good film. The rat pack Oceans Eleven is bad. Soderbergh’s is fun. I would not call THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD bad, but it’s nowhere near as great as John Carpenter’s remake. Croneberg’s THE FLY is greatly superior than the original.

Halloween 2017 beats all the sequels and the remake, The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, F13th remake, Star Trek reboot trilogy imo is better than every past movie except for WoK and First Contact, Rogue One and Last Jedi are superior to the prequels, ANOES: Dream Warriors is the best in the series, TCM remake is the 2nd best in the series, It parts 1 and 2.

ha yeah same. It sprung to mind as the most dramatic example cause it's a bloody Ouija sequel, but somehow landed genuine talent.

Full disclosure, I haven't seen either of them, I've just heard good things and I've been watching Mike Flanagan stuff lately. Good stuff.

I just watched both West Side Story movies for the first time back-to-back today, and I have to say Spielberg’s remake easily is superior to the original in just about every way. The cinematography, direction, and acting is spectacular.

I agree but the original still isn't bad, it did win Best Picture after all. It just has some cringiness to it that came with the era that it was made in, the most prominent being actors in brownface portraying the Sharks and the least of which being the awkwardly dubbed singing voice for Natalie Wood.
