What movies are so good you would vehemently protest against any future cash-ins? This includes reboots, remakes, belated sequels, prequels, and so on. Any movies you think Hollywood shouldn't touch again because they're perfect the way they are?

Back to the Future comes to mind for me.

Also, a third Ghostbusters film would probably suck. That's odd coming from a guy who believed as a kid (for some reason, maybe I dreamed it) that there were in fact over a hundred Ghostbusters movies out there. But I don't think I need to see the original cast as old farts training some annoying new stars to take over the reins. Sounds too much like that fabled Star Wars sequel trilogy.

By the way, I'd be fine with seeing more Star Wars movies, perhaps based on the Old Republic - after George Lucas has passed away. Given the prequels, I don't trust him to make any more Star Wars films that aren't crap. He's one of those sci-fi creators that needs to be reined in a bit, like Gene Roddenberry.

Back to the Future
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Ghostbusters
Jurassic Park
Terminator
The Last Starfighter
The Goonies
Karate Kid
National Lampoon
The Muppets
The Jetsons
Jonny Quest
American Tail
Dragonball Z

The Last Starfighter

I would REALLY like to see a new version of The Last Starfighter. With today's video game technology, it could really work. There were rumors of a sequel/remake a while back but I'm not sure what happened to it.

Die Hard....

Leave that alone, Hollywood or I'll cry and make YouTube video..then flip you off.

Now make a new Brimstone series & put the 98-99 series on DVD. Damn.

In addition to those:

Rocky
The Godfather
Lord of the Rings (After Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" films are finished, of course)
Harry Potter
John Hughes' films from the 1980s (Does that count as a franchise?)

To me Back to the Future is about as untouchable as you can get. There's is nothing a remake can bring that would be equal to the original, it's a film series that is (no pun intended) timeless and one of a kind. A lot of other stuff you could remake and get maybe a decent result, but BTTF is not one of them imo.

Same. I really wouldn't mind a new version or sequel of this. But everything else mentioned should go untouched.

The Muppets

Whoa there. I haven't seen it, but I've heard the latest Muppets movie was great.

I have no problem with additional Muppet movies. They should do more literary adaptations.

If we're talking remakes, I think Hollywood should just leave EVERY franchise ever made, or every film ever made for that matter, alone.

If we're talking adding prequels / sequels, they can tackle any franchise they like. I'm free to buy these new films or not depending on how good I think they are.

/\ I agree with this guy. Though I don't mind remakes - some franchise films just don't call from them at all. Remaking Jurassic Park? Back to the Future? Star Wars? Indiana Jones? Ghostbuster? Etc. Just wouldn't make any sense at all because all those films are great and will always be great. Plus, a sequel or prequel would always be leagues better in those cases.

There was a musical version that played Off-Broadway a few years back.

That would be my choice as well. There is no reason on earth to re-make that movie.

Well, didn't they already do a Terminator movie with Sam Worthington & Christian Bale recently? Granted it was a sequel not a remake, but still...

I'll add more to the list:

Scarface
Gone With The Wind
Sound of Music
Lawrence of Arabia
Taxi Driver
Bull Durham
2001: A Space Odyssey

Yeah and it was pretty horrible, just like all the other non-James Cameron Terminator projects. It's a franchise that doesn't need any more installments.

Yeah, Terminator is as dead of a horse as you can get. They had a shot at breathing new life into it with Salvation, but that movie blew. They need to just give it up already.

Not a franchise but...

Blade Runner!

Leave it be please!

Has Leathal Weapon been mentioned?

I agree, but what are the chances that in 2015 - the 30th anniversary of the movie - Universal puts out a re-make of Back to the Future in which the kid travels back to meet his parents in the year 1985?

I was talking about that with a few people recently, when we realized that "30 years ago" is now the 1980s.

There were such seismic cultural changes between the 1950s and the 1980s, it was part of what made the original BTTF so funny. It was the beginning of rock 'n roll, it was the start of TV, it was pre-Kennedy assassination, pre-Vietnam.

It's much more cynical now, and it wouldn't be as funny of a culture clash as it was the first time around.

I'd love to see another one. More dinosaur mayhem please.

I agree. Apart from that really dumb part when the little black girl does the swingy thing and boots the raptor in the face, it's for the most part, had pretty great sequels. I'd like to see them tackle more sea creatures like Predator X.
