Severe weather

I live in WV, and we can get anywhere from 1 to 3 feet of snow with this thing....it has been snowing since yesterday already. And it's not even made landfall yet.

I work for a retail store, and we all heard that our local shopping mall (the mall,) was closing at 2 pm. We asked if our store would follow suit. We were told they would only let us leave if a state of emergency was declared. Well, a little after 1 PM they declared a state of emergency for here. So we went back to my manager and showed her online where they had announced it and she said, 'yeah, we still won't close'. Really??? Like it's sooooo essential that people come in and buy dress socks and singing Justin Beber toothbrushes???:doh::doh:

Guess who left early anyway.............:o

I live in NYC, north of Manhattan. I'm not expecting any direct threats here since I'm not near any water. The worst would be some rain and wind, and maybe a power outage at the worst, but I know other parts of the city are already showing signs of damage before the grunt of the storm has arrived. Some power outages, and even a crane that collapsed in the city due to some 50mph wind. That's a scary sight since it can fall and cause major damage if it falls down to the street.

i saw a pic in my county where a trampoline got stuck in between two powerlines!

My dog is barking like crazy.

I'm pretty sure it's because the storm is a couple hours away.

I live in Mesa AZ. I don't get weather, just heat. Lots and lots of heat. I don't even think I own a coat. I might, but I have no idea where it is.

Hurricane Sandy is getting close! Getting lots of rain and wind gusts here in north central PA.

Just who did these poor field reporters piss off in order to get sent out on the beach during a hurricane?

Seriously! We've been saying the same thing here. This is what encourages stupid people to think it's OK to go out there.

This is definitely the scariest scene I've seen so far because the potential of damage that can be caused. If this falls, it can be very deadly because the winds are still set to pick up and can make the fall more horizontal than vertical.

They're idiots for not dismantling or properly securing that thing before this whole thing started. The city overprepares by shutting down public transit, but forgets an actual danger. Shades of last year.

Watching Chris Christie's press conference...apparently the mayor of Atlantic City told people they would be OK at shelters in the city, despite being told repeatedly that the storm was coming right to them. Now they're stuck there, and Christie is basically telling them their on their own. He won't risk sending the rescue crews at this point, since the storm is expected within the hour.

The ironic thing is I saw the Mayor's news conference yesterday where he was asked about this exact kind of situation and he did say they told construction workers to shut down over the weekend, and to secure everything. I saw a representative on the news earlier who said they couldn't check every single one in the city, but it seems like whoever didn't do their job on this one is really going to hear about it, especially if this causes major damage.

And as a side note, the building that is being constructed is a residential building or billionaires and is set to be the tallest residential building in the city.

I live in NC and right now the wind is picking up and the clouds are over top of us with a modest rotation. Supposed to get rain and snow tonight. And to top it off i work outside til early morning. Gotta love mondays.

P.S. Be safe and good luck to everyone who is in the way of this thing.

I'm in NE Ohio, and it's been raining nonstop since last night and it's getting windier. Supposedly we might get some 75 mph wind gusts and some power outages.

worst of the wind is at the shoreline, seeing 10 to 15 foot waves at the lake and a friend reporting getting snow East of Cleveland

The winds have definitely picked up around me. I'm actually a bit worried about one of my windows blowing in.

ConEd is shutting power in various parts of the city to make repairs easier. ****heads.

I'm in western NY and Sandy's (or her edge) here.

That is politically smart. If he doesn't unload now, whatever incompetence by the Mayor will fall onto Christie. Or even the Obama administration.

These images from Lower Manhattan are unreal....
