Severe weather

I live in Maryland, and it's horrible over here. Also, the storm made things kind of bad as well. Fortunately, the power never went out in my area, but my friends over PH had to go without all yesterday. Still, could have been worse.

RIP Seaside Heights

That's insane. I just found out a pavilion in the town I used to live is destroyed.

No big, significant damage in my area, but I did spot this nearby.

I've got some family members posting some amazing pictures

And one humorous picture

Wow, these photos are unreal! :wow:

As bad as the blizzard is here, I am glad that's all we got. You guys all stay safe!

Just a few shots of the snow around the neighborhood:

Thoughts out to those affected by Sandy. It's been surreal to have such nice weather here in Utah and then looking at all the destruction and flooding going on back east :csad:. Hope everyone is staying as safe as they can given the conditions.

For anyone interested, 'fake' photos of Sandy's effects have been popping up that some people are trying to pass off as real and a coworker sent me this site that's trying to sort through what's real and what's not (some of them are clear givens, others perhaps not so much)

I have to say, as sad as it is, that picture of the Carousel is eeriely beautiful :csad:

Also a reminder to those of us that would like to help from wherever we live in the states but aren't sure how (not sure if this has been posted yet, apologies if it has), you can donate $10 from your mobile phone for disaster relief by texting REDCROSS to 90999

Again, those of you on the east coast, stay safe!!

I did laugh at the scuba diver in the subway tunnel but this is terrible. Good luck to everyone impacted by the storm.

yeah people near my county used scuba gear, canoes and kayaks.

It's ironic how so many people were dismissing this storm and what kind of effect it could have just based on what happened with Irene last year.

I actually saw a picture earlier today comparing the radar for both hurricanes and this one was significantly bigger.

I could totally understand dismissing the storm as a bit of hype. When I lived in Chicago we'd get warning all the time about awful snowfalls and stuff. Most times when they predicted 6-8 inches we'd get 1-3. However, 1 in 10 predictions actually came true and you'd be happy that all the precautions were taken at those times.

There was a kayak sitting on the steps of someone in my complex when I left on Sunday. Just staying prepared. Although it sounds like we didn't get flooded, but there's still no power.

I'm kinda really ticked off at some of my friends right now. It was announced that schools would be closed again tomorrow and a bunch of them were complaining because that means their play won't be able to open tomorrow and the show dates may have to be pushed back a bit. Normally I keep quiet about things like that, but after going out and seeing things for myself, I posted something on the group wall about how there are bigger concerns right now and to relax because the play will get its time. A few people responded to say they were disregarding that, but this one girl just got so angry at me for "talking down" about the play. I'm not responding, but I don't think I'm even going to show up now because of that.

Yeah, I'm in the mentality of it's better to be safe than sorry. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical about this one simply because we've never really seen something big like this do damage to the city like it would in other places, but after seeing the news all day and seeing how worse things could've been, I won't make that same mistake twice.

I live in MD and did pretty well. No downed trees in my neighborhood and I did not loose power. YAY! :D I still feel for those who were adversely affected by the storm.

I live in northern NJ, and we had catastrophic flooding after Irene last year, which included no power for nearly two weeks. We didn't mess around with this. I cleared out my garage on Saturday, and I headed to my parents house last night, where I still am now. I've been checking updates from my town from Twitter, and it looks like the power is out and there are a lot of down power lines, but we may have escaped the flooding this time.
I think a lot of people who got flooded during Irene were more prepared this time around. Better safe than sorry!

I lived in NJ as a kid and we still have family friends there. One posted a before and after pic of the bricked walkway in front of her house next to the ocean. Post-Sandy, the bricks are all gone. :wow: Her house was on a hill and didn't experience flooding though, thank goodness. Some minor damage to the roof but everyone's okay. Even if several boats got lifted out of their moorings and was deposited onto nearby lawns. :funny:

My friend in Philly had a bad contract job on her apartment ceiling and now there are giant holes where insulation is poking through. :funny: They had to use a bunch of buckets to catch the water. Her bf even said, "Philly doesn't get natural disasters!" before they moved there. Obviously tempted fate. :o

Weird, my cousin is in Atlanta and they lost power and had downed trees over there! Random!

Pretty much my whole family lives (both sides of my famiy) on the northeast. I'm really glad their safe.

Chris Christie is doing a press conference now. He's saying the boardwalks at Belmar and Seaside Heights are completely gone. Unreal.

I think a lot of people were still upset about what kind of inconvenience was caused by all of the safety precautions. The damage was no where near what was predicted, so people felt like this was just another case of being overly cautious.

Yeah, I have people on my facebook that thinks what everyone went through to prepare for the storm is funny. I'd rather be safe than sorry, no matter what people think of it.

It's crazy how a lot of the talk has been what happened in NYC, but the real devastation is in Jersey. Sure there was some flooding and the subway system has been crippled for a few days, but other than the big fire in Queens, its nothing compared to what people in Jersey are going through with complete areas washed away and houses destroyed.

Yeah, I mean it can be excessive in some parts of the city, like where I live, that aren't going to experience severe damage like flooding. But at the same time, its better to be prepared for something that doesn't happen than overwhelmed by something that does.

Cue jokes......now. :o

But yeah, they are gonna focus more on the Big Apple, even if the damage was miniscule. It's New York.

Yeah, I kind of feel bad because last week a few of us were talking in the NBA thread about how no one really cares about NJ, at least in terms of sports, and how even the teams know it and want to get out of that wasteland. But NY really is like the older sibling that gets all the attention no matter what happens over there.

It was like this after Irene. Where I live in NJ was completely devastated, but the only thing on the news was how NY overreacted preparing for Irene. Know what it was like to not know if you had a house to come back to and hearing the storm get joked about? Because "nothing happened"?

It's not too bad here.Last night it was kinda rough, but not that bad. They did close all the schools and programs today.a lot of people lost power, but luckily my neighborhood/area was spared. We are experiencing a bread shortage though.

Damn, well I hope things haven't been too bad for you this time around.

We're very lucky this time. I've been at my folks' place since Sunday, and we still have power. Most of the town is out, though, and I don't even know when I'll be able to get back to my apartment, since my town is totally without power.

My mom is devastated about Breezy Point. She spent all her summers there as a kid.
