Severe weather

I'm on the Upper East Side. :(

Apparently everything above 42nd is set to go off any moment. :(

I kinda really want to go out to see how things are around here, but I'm worried about falling trees. My brother was out a while ago and he said he saw a lot of trees down by his house, which is a few block from mine.

Yeah, they said some couple got killed leaving their house on CNN earlier, so not trying to freak out....just watch yourself.

Yeah, I had wanted to take some before and after pics of any damage done, but I think I'll wait until the morning to see the aftermath since things should be calm by tomorrow afternoon.

Definitely not worth it. Just about every fatality I've heard so far has been due to falling trees.

This is a terrible storm, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the East Coast, including my sister & her family. I hope Hurricane Sandy will not do too much damage, although the forecast seems to suggest otherwise; one news said it could cause over 20 billion worth of property damages. :csad:

NYU Medical Center has lost their backup generator, they're evacuating the patients. :wow:

Yeah, I don't want to take any unnecessary risks, even though my area hasn't really been hit too hard. But I must say, there were talks of this being one of the biggest events in NYC since 9/11, probably even worse than the blackout of 2003. And with all that considered, it's amazing to see that the death toll is only at about a handful, maybe more. Things could get worse, but at least this hasn't been catastrophic in terms of lives lost.

...bridge?
Looks more like a pier.

It could very well be costly and time consuming. I know there were reports about flights being cancelled and how that was extremely costly, but at the end of the day, lives matter more than money.

Due to how GDP is aggregated, all the destruction and repairs will perversely boost GDP numbers down the line. Yes Hurricane Sandy will "help the economy" on paper. Which of course is not true.

I just saw video of ambulances lined up, and according to the reporter, he lost count after about 50.

They're bringing out kids from the NICU. Apparently it's 9 flights up, and they had no lights coming down. Damn.

I'm once again grateful that my sister is still a month away from giving birth, with all of this going on.

Always a scary thing when an ICU loses power.

It's ironic how so many people were dismissing this storm and what kind of effect it could have just based on what happened with Irene last year.

I actually saw a picture earlier today comparing the radar for both hurricanes and this one was significantly bigger.

Sandy was a BIG one. Im surprised anyone could look at it and dismiss it regardless of Irene.
