Segel's an interesting choice. Didn't realize he was quite that tall.

I think if Get Smart does well at the box office Peter Segal will have more leverage at the studio and there will be a bigger chance that Shazam will finally get the bo ahead.Kind of like how Zack Snyder had to prove himself with 300 before getting Watchmen off the ground.

In other words, if you want to see SHAZAM, go see GET SMART!

Get Smart looks like a funny comedy and we all need a good laugh some times. Steve Carell is a perfect replacement for Don Adams as the goodhearted but bumbling Maxwell Smart. Steve Carell is perfect as a sweet well meaning but socially awkward bumbling guy. He was totally hilarious in the 40 Year Old Virgin.

Max Smart wasn't all that bumbling on the show, but since it's an origin, I can see why. He was pretty proficient, he just happened to have crazy **** happening to him all the time...his luck was just bad. :p

Get Smart looks incredibly bad and annoying by the way. It seems they are trying to make people laugh but instead they will be pissed at how lame the humor in it is. Thats what I got when I saw the trailer for that movie in the cinema and the audience reaction.

So....you're saying you don't want to see Shazam brought to the screen sooner.

I thought the trailer was pretty funny. I think it will do just fine.

I'd like to see Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) as Captain Marvel. He could effectively pull off the persona of a child suddenly inhabiting a super heroic, fully grown body. Segel is both hilarious and, at 6'4, huge for a comedic actor. Even though he's best known for being funny (something this role needs), he can also be very intimidating (SLC Punk!). To me, Segel combines everything the role really needs. Just give him a couple months in the gym to bulk up and we have a good Captain Marvel.

I'm afraid I can't see this guy playing Captain Marvel. Sorry.

The right way to do this movie is to look at what Disney and Pixar have been doing for years. All those great movies that have come out of their camps have been kid oriented family friendly fairs that have huge notes of seriousness.

The fact that Billy is an orphan is serious.
The fact that Billy is going to have to realize that his powers aren't just fun and games and that people might die if he doesn't do the wise and right thing is serious.
Black Adam and his overall presence is deadly serious. He doesn't need to be killing people left and right but the way he's been written recently they'd do well to tap into his desire to impose his order onto the world and the fact that he's willing to accept the cost of doing so. He's a fascist; a superpowered Mussolini in a way.

i respect that John August sat down with DC and Geoff Johns to discuss the script. good.

Good points. Disney and Pixar have succeeded because their films appeal to such a wide audience. In all honesty, I'd say The Incredibles was a far better movie than Fantastic 4 because it was fun and kid friendly, but also had good plots and character development. They were serious and tense when they needed to be, but fun and adventerous when they needed to be.

Heck, The Incredibles had ideas, scope, and subtext. I'm not sure FF even had subtext as the "we're a family" was pretty much text.

Well, I still hope that the Hulk trounces the competition-- no disrespect to the Captain Marvel project.. I sill want it to happen in a major way.. so what actor would be willing to wear the red tights for 3 films and not start whining about being in a comic-strip movie?

Eek. No offense but, you really aren't a Captain Marvel fan, are you? Shazam isn't the main character, Shazam is an old wizard. Captain Marvel is the main character. Also, Brandon Molale IS fresh talent.

You might not be old enough to remember when Shazam use to air on CBS before The Mighty Isis. Not once can I recall they ever called the guy Captain Marvel.I don't remember any old wizard...heck...do I have to go locate the Shazam dvd like I did Isis??I must have missed something in my youth?? *smirk*

I'm a little disappointed in all of the characters in a DC Universe they would attempt to do a Shazam! movie, they must be tailoring it towards children like "Underdog".And than the actor that is playing Max Well Smart to be attached to it...oh...the blashpemy.......:brucebat:

Blasphemy? Try faithfulness. Not every comic book was created to be dark and edgy. Nor are they the only ones that are worth adapting.

To be honest I'm not too interested in a Shazam movie. And I will be man enough to admit that one of my reasons is incredibly dumb and selfish: The fact that his costume resembles Flash's with the red suit and the yellow lightning bolt symbol.
