I'd rather an unknown take the part. Ashton Kutcher, although seemingly an icon (for some reason), would make the part too Ashton Kutcher is Shazam!

5:04 PM CENTRAL: During Wondercon this past Saturday in San Francisco, I had the chance to visit with GET SMART director Peter Segal about what just may be his next film: SHAZAM!.

“Now that the writer’s strike is over, we’ll be getting to work on SHAZAM!,” director Peter Segal told BOF. “John August is hard at work again on the screenplay.”

It was very evident that the director is passionate about the possibility of bringing the iconic Captain Marvel to the big screen. Here’s a few more tidbits that Mr. Segal revealed:

* He and his creative team envision Fawcett City as being a “west coast city.” So I’m thinking it’s going to have an LA vibe to it since Segal is from there.

* While intent on Capt. Marvel’s costume remaining “classic,” it will be updated a tad as well as allowing for the creative team to put their own stamp on it.

* Both Freddie (Capt. Marvel Jr.?) and Mary Marvel are in the mix.

* Mister "Tawky" Tawny the Talking Tiger? “Yep,” says Segal, “well, at least our version of him,” he said with a wink.

* SHAZAM! will definitely NOT be a comedy, campy, or “really light-hearted.” “We’re going about this seriously, but it will have some humor.”

* Segal and Dwayne Johnson, who co-stars in the director‘s GET SMART, have indeed spoken about The Rock playing Black Adam -- who looks to be the villain of the film.

* Segal said he’s looking for his own “Tom Hanks” to play the Captain. Someone who can be heroic, but still convey the fact that he’s really 13 years old. Should we be looking for someone who’s today’s Fred MacMurray? Creator C.C. Beck modeled Capt. Marvel on the actor and Segal said as much during the interview.

It certainly sounds as if Segal, writer John August and the rest of the team behind SHAZAM! are genuinely excited about the project and intend on developing it with a great deal of respect for the source material.

I get the feeling that “BIG in tights” is the goal and I mean that in a good way.

I don't understand why it is so difficult for you to believe that Jett spoke to Segal. FACT: he has contacts within the studio. FACT: it is a well-regarded website.

I really don't see the reason for such pessimism.

I disagree, but have done so only recently. I saw Warburton on TV last week on some poker tournament and he looked as though he could still fill the part. However, as is almost always the case, people here are making the mistake of "casting" this role by the physique and not the talent.
Christopher Reeve.
Brandon Routh.
Christian Bale.
None of these are the physical match to their comic book counterparts, but I would argue all pulled off their respective roles. You can't cast these roles by biceps; it just doesn't work that way.

As do I. Others have noted the "Harry Potter" similarity with the title and I like the tone it strikes. If this film can mirror those books/movies in fantasy, action, humor, and characterization I feel it will do very well. My whole family enjoys the Potter films, and many of the comic book movies being made today. This take on the character may help differentiate it from Superman as a unique comic book film.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Look, I dont like Jett one bit, but are you seriously telling me you'd believe that he actually made up an interview? Seriously? You really think even Jett would do that? I dont think any news site would actually go so far as to fictionalize an interview.

In fact, i'm pretty sure you're straight-up not allowed to do that. I dont know if that falls under libel, but it doesn't seem right. I dont think a news site can just lie and attribute quotes to people when they didn't say them.

And even if it was legal, why the hell would he do that? For kicks? There's absolutley no reason to assume that the guy would just make this up. No reason at all. It doesn't even have anything to do with Batman.

Long story short, you're dumb. Unless you were being sarcastic... which would mean you support Jett, so you're still dumb.
