I'd support Patrick Warburton as Captain Marvel.

How about Jewel Staite as Mary Marvel?

She's got the looks and acting skills for Mary's personality.

Staite hasn't proven she can be a believable action hero, unfortunately. That's the only reason she doesn't fit. :(

A better choice might be Amy Acker. She's got all that plus she's a proven action star from her Angel roles.

oh what role was she in stargate atlantis i watch that show.

Dr. Jennifer Keller.

You should watch Firefly/Serenity for her best genre work. She's good on Stargate, her first role was a tame female Wraith for one episode, but her Whedon projects blow it out of the water.

My Billy Baston and the Magic of Shazam! casting

MarvelFamily.jpg

Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam
Brandon Molale as Captain Marvel
Lacey Chabert as Mary Bloomfield/Mary Marvel
Matt Dallas as Freddy Freeman/Captain Marvel Jr.

I have no idea who could play Shazam or Billy

oh is she the blonde doctor who is the head doctor now just trying to get characters straight.

I think I may have found away to appease the Warburton-Marvel and Molale-Marvel factions.

Captain Marvel is supposed to be based on Billy's recollections of what his father looked like mixed in with his own desire to big and powerful because he's scared of being alone.

Obviously its not going to be a perfect mirror of his father cause little kids don't really remember exact details and lets be frank it'd be extremely morbid to run around with face of your murdered father half the time.

So why not, to a least explain some of Marvel's features, have Patrick Warburton play C.C. Baston Billy and Mary's father?

There's enough overlapping features that'd be at least plausible

Hey, I just read somewhere that Brendan Fraser tried out for the role of Superman in Superman Returns. I didn't know that. Know I really want him to play "the Big Red Cheese".

Actually i believe fraser was offered/tested during the jj/McG peroid of development.

Nice idea. I do like the idea of Warburton playing Billy's father if he can't be Cap and I do like how the two look almost identical.

The only thing I disagree with you on is having Molale as Marvel.

Warburton would probably be a cool captain marvel. I am going to be meeting him possibly in a few weeks. If i do i will mention shazam and see what he thinks about it.

i can't see Patrick Warburton as Captain Marvel, only because every time i look at him now, regardless of the role, all i see is Putty. he will forever be Putty for me.

ive never been a fan of Captain Marvel really. didn't hate him, just never did anything for me. but i'd like to see a movie about him- see a kid live his dream of being a superhero. and they'd have to go that angle too, even make it kid-friendly. i see the billy's scenes looking like your average kid movie, get fun and spectacular (Spider-Man-esque) the first times you see Marvel, but then get serious for his battle(s) with Black Adam.

Thats exactly the type of thinking that got Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. After Bale and Downey and Norton I want actors to play these heroes. Molale may be able to pull a Routh and come from no background and due a great job - but his entire fan base in built on his looks alone, which is stupid.

This is a good point. This recent string of CBMs have spoiled us now and I think people are expecting higher quality castings, not just the faux garbage that FOX has fed us through Marvel over the years.

Whoever plays the role needs to have a modicum of the looks, but he better have the acting chops to boot.

'Wardogs' in action with MGM
Action-comedy pitch from Ken Kaufman and David Agosto
By Jay A. Fernandez and Borys Kit

Aug 11, 2008, 12:00 AM ET
Ken Kaufman and David Agosto have sold an action-comedy pitch -- for the moment titled "Wardogs" -- to MGM with "Get Smart" helmer Peter Segal attached to direct. Although several studios were vying for the project, MGM picked it up for $1 million.

Segal and his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing are producing along with Andrew Lazar.

The producers are keeping quiet on the plot, but Lazar said that "it's an action ensemble comedy in the vein of 'Ocean's Eleven,' where the casting becomes an event."

Added Ewing, "It is a bunch of these terrific actors getting together and having a good time‚ it's that kind of thing."

MGM, with CEO Harry Sloan recently re-upping for another three-year stretch in the top slot, continues to compete with the other majors for material.

The CAA-repped Segal and Ewing worked with MGM Worldwide Motion Picture Group chairman Mary Parent when she co-ran Universal on "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps."

Kaufman, repped by Endeavor, wrote the screenplays for "Curious George" and "The Missing," and he co-wrote "Space Cowboys." Last year, he sold his comedy pitch "Stone Kings" to Warner Bros., with Jay Roach attached to direct.

Agosto, also an Endeavor client, has worked on several scripts with Kaufman, including "Curious George." Lazar was a producer of "Space Cowboys" and "Get Smart" along with Ewing.

I wonder is he still planning to do shazam or move to this movie. Or do shazam then this or this film then shazam.

Guys gotta feed his family. Last report was they were waiting in line for August to get back around to the script.

Yea shazam like all other dc films are stuck in limbo for now i guess even though shazam, green arrow are two i think were in good stage of script development to get moving along to film. I do hope we can get some good dc films turning out in the next few yrs.

Damn it. Warner Brothers needs to stop putting off all the DC film projects other than Batman and Singer's lame Superman, into limbo.

Oh man, Sam Elliot as the Wizard Shazam is the best casting i've ever heard. That would be awesome.

Not bad. I could go for that cast. I would have The Rock as Black Adam though and I doubt you would get Bin Kingsly to do a film like this. All-n-all though I like the picks in that line up.

My friend Daniel made this before they spread those The Rock/Black Adam rumors. But he agrees with that casting, i believe.
