One more question here from Dan Collins and he wants an update on Captain Marvel, specifically, if we’ll see Billy Batson back as Captain Marvel again this year?

Speaking on behalf of DC Entertainment, Captain Marvel is a big character for us. If you wanted to ask specifics about Captain Marvel, Billy Batson and the Marvel Family in comics, you’d have to ask Dan and Jim. Obviously, I know there is a lot of passion for Captain Marvel but just you know, outside the comic books, he’s a character that we talk a lot about in Burbank. He’s a very important character. His whole mythology is terrific. I think Billy, Mary and Freddy and everybody have so much potential. It’s like Harry Potter and superheroes. It's just a fantastic superhero universe and one that I think really needs to be further explored, as do a lot of other people. I would expect Shazam to become an increasing presence, among many others.

Edit to add: Greg Weisman has revealed that Captain Marvel will be an important recurring character in the Young Justice animated series. Rob Lowe will be voicing the part.

If there were ever a character more suited to "Beowulf" style CG film, it's Captain Marvel. His world is so fantastical, it would be fully in-tact if it were a cartoon. No one would worry about this and that being too weird for audiences.

I did a DC Entertainment Wishlist for television a while back and suggested Captain Marvel be an animated show on Saturday mornings. And while I still think that's genius, I think the property could work on the big screen as well. In regards to how this is setup, its the same deal as the Static Shock casting, clicking the bold will give you character history,and clicking the name outside the colon will give you a clip of the talent's ability...So without further ado, here is my cast for "THE MAGIC of SHAZAM!" (not Billy Baston and the...)



William 'Billy' Baston/Captain Marvel: Jacob Kogan

(Jacob was good in 'Joshua' and in his tiny role in 'Star Trek', and I think he can be a great star as young Billy Baston)


Jebediah of Canaan/SHAZAM: Jeff Bridges

(Jeff is a great actor, and in my vision, this isn't going to be a cameo role. Shazam should show up more than just the 2minute origin. He'll be back for the second movie!Besides, I don't think Ian McKellen would do it. )


Captain Marvel: Joe Manganiello

(He's big but not huge. This is a family film, and he's young enough that his appearance won't change over the years in between films.)

Uncle Eb: William Fichtner

(William is a tremendous actor, and while this role is super small, its crucial that's believable and done well. Uncle Eb has to treat little Billy very cruelly and kick him out of the house. William has proven he can play an *******, this will be saddest part of the movie. I'm not talking "UP" sad, I'm talking about "TOY STORY 2 & 3" sad.)


Dr. Thaddeus Sivana: Michael Emerson
(Michael will go down as one of television's greatest villains. Playing a Lex Luthor like character but more perverted(but still family friendly!) should be child's play. His role is definitely small in this first film, but I would have no doubts that Michael wouldn't steal the show.)

Beautia Sivana: Jennifer Garner

(Beautia is a rich young lady thanks to her father. She ends up being the damsel in distress when Captain Marvel shows up, and she's instantly hooked on him. Unfortunately for her, he doesn't realize that because he's still slightly a child in a man's body. Jennifer can be charmingly funny(see: Invention of Lying) and still provide enough star power that doesn't overshadow the character.)

Lisa Sutton: Abigail Breslin

(Abigail is amazing, especially considering her age. She'd probably refuse the role but I'd love for her to play Billy's best friend.)

Teth-Adam/Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson

(I know its not very creative casting, but what the hell? Its just a couple of deep voiced lines, a few punches and evil looks. Its just The Scorpion King as the villain.)

Back in the 1950s a young Elvis Presley would have made a great Captain Marvel Jr. Also imo the actor who plays CM3 should have a certain resemblance to a young Elvis presley.

Geoff Boucher of the LA Times' 'Hero Complex' writes:

I suspect we will see Captain Marvel take flight now that Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns are at the fore of a new Warner Bros. initiative to better mine the DC library but don't be surprised if the hero is at the center of a live-action, prime-time television series instead of a feature film. There are some rumblings about going in that direction although it's too early to call it much more than focused chatter.

I just want to clarify that even though it's strong speculation, Geoff knows his stuff and has a lot of sources. So he's legit.

Sounds good to me if it's done right. The time limit idea is total fail. Cap switches back to Billy because they are different people who share the same memories. At least, when it is written correctly they are. By the way, it's well known Elvis styled his hair after Juniors. The suits he wore in the Vegas years were also inspired by the Marvel Family.

The title for the Grant Morrison Captain Marvel one-shot is apparently "Thunderworld"-a great way to get around the Shazam name confusing people thinking that's Cap's name.

Pretty nice, although I like Mary as a teen and not a child. The whole Judy Garland thing.

The William Goldman script I read a while back is almost note perfect if you want a classic SHAZAM...except for the villains. If there's a movie, it needs to have Sivana and Black Adam. The villains in this draft were just horribly portrayed. They weren't pushovers, but they sure acted like it.

Captain Marvel is more or less a supporting character in the story, which is perfect, because the crux of the story is about Billy Batson and his friend growing up. There have been comparisons to BIG, but I didn't really feel that.

An interesting element of the script...I don't think any of the people named here for Captain Marvel would have a shot...they wrote him as a 25 year old hunk. It probably wasn't quite the way to go, a bit of a slave to classic Captain Marvel. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, though. This movie must be made.

Well, I think a lot of people have thought of the Rock as Namor too. Black Adam has basically developed into DC's version of Namor anyway, which is good and bad. They rarely use Cap right and when they made Billy and Cap the exact same they lost a lot too. But they have no motivation or interest in doing Cap right...it's just like the way Vince McMahon treats WCW-he owns it but still acts like it's the enemy. DC treats the Marvel Family the same way and them Marvel has to be a bunch of *****es over the name.

Look it should be Triple h or Kevin sorbo as shazam and the rock as black adam. and no adam teth dose not look diffrent when changing into black adam. the powers of shazam makes who ever look as if the were mid age adult.
