Shenmue 3

Source : giant bomb
yup another game I had no clue was being worked on next to the buffy and fire fly MMo. did you? cause every time it's asked most people say no chance of this franchise coming back so this a bit of shocker that some was actually doing this.

oh well discussions in session.

At least Yu Suzuki revealed how his masterpiece would have ended. :[

Shenmue is the reason I play video games. I will forever hold on to hope, that one day, this saga will see it's conclusion

Shenmue was such a great game, i would have loved for them to conclude the series. I wish they would release 1 and 2

Yeah, I really don't see why they won't do at least that. The best case scenario is that the sales are good enough to warrant a continuation of the series, but the worst that could realistically happen is that they only make a modest profit instead of a large one, because I guarantee they would make at least some profit. The ****, Sega? You scared of money?

Sega has a great library of franchises. It's really unfortunate they don't give a **** about any of them except Sonic, and to a much lesser extent, Phantasy Star.

when the said there's no chance of the franchise coming back it was said the sales weren't where the creator of the game wanted them to be. as in sale weren't god in his eyes and that was the reason he didn't want to make anymore. and then this was being made suddenly. After that was said.

At least it wasn't driven into the ground with multiple inferior sequels. Thats happend to alot of games because they basically, want money and nothing else. The developers should have a 6 foot Native American with a pillow standing next to them when they put out good games.

I think this generation of games needs Shenmue, with the fanbase the game has, i think it would do SEGA some justice

hmm the way saga is right now . I'm not sure it's a good idea. unless their like the people that did the game "vanquish" where the creator had free reign and a lot of self employed resources studio wise . it's a dangerous venture

Well, Shinji Mikami was responsible for Vanquish and his developement team was also responsible for Resident Evil 4, so I could see Sega giving him free reign because of the credibility he earned with previous games. I think the hardest thing it would be as far as coming forth with a new Shenmue is what new could they bring to the table as far as gameplay. I think they already had their work cut out for them as far as the story, so the gameplay would need to parallel that

I don't know if you guys have seen this before or not, it's pretty old, but this "tribute" to Shenmue is pretty great. :funny:

Part 1

Part 2

Well, at least you got the Yakuza series. ****ed up as it is.

Yu Suzuki was the creator of Shenmue series who retired due to it not making enough money in his eyes.

I'm saying you
need those things that Shinji Mikami had to make vanquish. not give to shinji. it's Yu Suzuki baby. other wise sega won't and can't do it. it's ether that or have Yu Suzuki work for another publisher where he'll be better off.

other wise the Yakuza series is its successor a as terry and gamer reviwers gave said.

Yu Suzuki expresses interest in obtaining Shenmue license from Sega

Get your grains of salt ready, we're about to report on the potential release of another Shenmue title. Speaking to French fan site Shenmue Master at the Toulouse Games Show (not to be confused with the other TGS), Shenmue maestro Yu Suzuki expressed possible interest in obtaining the Shenmue license from Sega.

When asked exactly who owns the license, Suzuki responded that the license currently belongs to Sega. That said, he added that "we can obtain the license from Sega," presumably speaking on behalf of his company, YS Net. Of course, that's not a direct confirmation that YS Net is actually pursuing such a transaction.

Even if it is, there's no guarantee the license would be used for a true Shenmue sequel anyway. After all, the last Shenmue project turned out be a (recently shuttered) social game. See the English translation of the interview after the break (skip to 9:40 for the question regarding Shenmue's license). Continue Reading

Ill never give up hope!

I played shenmue 2 on xbox a whole lot. Probably toward 100 hours.

Shenmue was the game that got me HOOKED on video games, before that it was just playing for leisure. Wasn't it the first sandbox game? It sure felt like it.

Hmm. I don't know. I'm not sure I would call Shenmue a sandbox game to be honest.

I'd definitely sell my soul to finish the Shenmue series. I HAVE to find and kill Lan Di. It's my destiny! Dude shouldn't have killed my father.

Based on some things Yu Suzuki has said in interviews, I strongly suspect that you wouldn't ever kill Lan Di, and that might not even be Ryo's ultimate goal.

It's pretty clear that Ryo would have become disinterested in avenging his father after finding love in Shenhua and 1980's Chinese culture.

That wouldn't make too much sense to me. Ryo gave up his entire life chasing Lan Di for revenge. Without Lan Di Ryo wouldn't be where he is in the first place. I'm sure that there is a story of how revenge can consume you and all that jazz, but Lan Di has to die by Ryo's hand. From his first scene of killing Iwao to that stare down on the rooftop at the end of part 2, Lan Di plays too big a part in Ryo's life for him to become disinterested. I could see trying to take out the Chi You Men as a major goal besides Lan Di, but Ryo needs that revenge big time.

Ah geez... I got all kinds of excited when I seen this topic.

Now I'm just sad. :(

Take it up with Yu Suzuki. He said it, I just posted it.
