Thats my thinking anyway. Have the main story, whatever it is, and have The Jokers flashbacks for his backstory running through the film - exactly like 'The Killing Joke'. This way it makes the movie totally different from Batman '89 and lets face it, flashbacks are cool :yay:

also, does anyone think the below image would be perfect for the teaser poster - dont put Batman in the poster, just a side-shot of the joker sitting at a table with his lucky deck , the partial lighting only showing some of his face. :wow:

Number 1: While I could see it happening because Nolan is fond of flashbacks, especially in the first few minutes of a film, I don't like it. I don't want explanations as to why the Joker is the Joker. He's creepier that way. That's why the Halloween movies are so creepy. That's why the new Halloween movie....won't be.

Number 2: While it'd be a nice addition to hang on my batman poster wall, The movie is still about Batman. Not his villains. Batman. If we see a "Joker" poster, I'll be a little worried that some marketing is attempted to be made by the Joker, and Joker alone. If Joker needs to be on the poster, he should share it with Batman. And he's the ONLY Batman villain who deserves that honor IMO.

my problem is if it is like a lost episode then i will have more questions at the end than when i started, and I will care less about the characters the more i know about them

I don't want a Joker origin story, and I don't want him to be a failing comedian. At most I could deal with a brief flashback with Batman realizing that he somehow created Joker... But part of what makes the Joker so scary and unpredictable is not knowing exactly where he comes from, the mystery surrounding him... Plus there's so much more important material to be focused on... I'd rather have all the characters (Gordon and Dent in particular) fleshed out and given depth.

I agree that perhaps an orgin story would kind of ruin the image of the joker, but I think it could be done in a more subtle way.

Nolan knows what he is doing anyway.

No origin he shuld just be a mystery in TDK i admit the origin in B89 worked well but this time they should just make him a insane mysterious killer.

The origin in flashbacks (I must admit I love the way they are done by Nolan) must be in this movie, not to explain Joker's story, but prove that he is intersting full of dramas character (that's not so easy, especially after B89).

.........

First the first time in the history of the world......

I agree with Damien Dark.

*dies*

a 2 hour long Lost episode? You mean that the writers should have no idea how it's going to end, characters should discover very important things then not mention them till the next movie, and it should suck?

What if Batman knows he made the Joker somehow and Joker playing on this starts making a sob story reminiscent of the Killing Joke to sort of make Batman think he ruined a man's life.

Batman believes him and like in the Killing Joker offers to help him. Joker then, starts to laugh and mocks Batman syaing he's just like him for ruining someone's life.

Scary man. Scary. :woot: :oldrazz:

Indeed. What is the world coming to?

No backstory, though. Nothing definitive, anyway. I know I keep going on about it, but I really liked the approach taken in The Man Who Laughs, where Batman investigated the Joker's crimes, realised he had played a part in his creation, but was still no nearer to knowing whe Joker actually was. This would showcase Batman's detective skills as well as keeping Joker's origins shrouded in mystery.

i prey they'll be no origin. if there is, ill have the sense of "what might have been" attached to the whole thing.

has there been any legitimate indication as to whether the joker will have an origin or not?

Ive never felt we needed a Joker origin in any form in TDK
