Should Hulk Get Another Solo? What would it be about?

They showed Justin Hammer in the One shot

Yes and he hasn't been seen since then. Does that mean we question whether the mcu forgot about him? Point being, Betty exist. She's out there somewhere doing things. Doing things that are irrelevant to Bruce story.

Good point about Justin Hammer, and character use in general.

But yeah, Bruce and Betty are an example of the tragic "if you really love them, you have to let them go" story. At this point in their lives, they should know that they'll never be able to really be together. They tried a reunion in TIH and it just resulted in more heartbreak.

Aside from Natasha being attractive, Bruce probably saw a possible relationship that might be able to survive the inevitable danger that will come their way, because unlike Betty, Natasha is better equip to handle danger. She's familiar and arguably comfortable with danger, and could maybe even protect Bruce if needed.

But I think that relationship is as good as over by the end of AoU anyways. When Bruce finds out that a large part of Natasha's desire to be with Bruce is out of a need to live normally, he's like "yeah, you're looking at the wrong person for that", plus she freaking pushes him down a pit because she deliberately wants the Hulk as a means to an end, so yeah.....

Not saying they'd be enemies now, but I think any chance at "true love" between them is gone. The romance in AoU felt awkward because it intentionally WAS awkward. They were never supposed to work and they didn't.

Yes, I think Marvel have come along way since Phase 1.

Even when characters aren't impacting on a story there's no harm in at least referencing them though. Abomination got a quick reference in AoS, and Ross was hinted at in Avengers as 'interested parties'. Why can't Betty get similar?

TIH ended with Bruce leaving because he wanted to protect her, and it was implied that he was looking for a way to control the Hulk so he could return to her. But Marvel has left this story open with no answer. If he abandoned this idea, when did it happen and why? Just close the story respectfully if this is what Marvel wants to do.

Everyone is at risk around the Hulk, with the exception of maybe Thor and Vision. Widow is as vulnerable as Betty in this respect. Widow could handle human threats, but she would get squashed by the likes of Abomination! I have seen this argument a couple of times from Brucenat shippers who want to criticise Betty (not implying you are being critical though).

I honestly expect Bruce to be alone for the remainder of phase 3 at least. But if romance is introduced again I think its a matter of who is a more compelling match: someone who has always been loving and supporting (but is accompanied by a crazy father) or a woman who will betray you when required and kick you into a hole? I like the former :cwink:

i feel like she may have slightly been referenced whe banner rocked the empty cradle, in Avengers.

Not really, what man who's life had been stripped away by a freak accident wouldn't think about his long time love? The life they could've led? the cradle and all was more of a nod to normalcy, for banner it would've been with betty and starting a family.

I would vote yes, but just yes isn't an option. I'm not sure where I'd like it to be set. I just know I want one. The Hulk's always been one of my favourite characters. Grew up on the Bixby/Ferrigno show, as well as all the animated stuff. Even the crappy '60s version. Haven't read a lot of Hulk comics though.

I wanted to ask some Hulk fans. What would the Hulk's speaking voice sound like? Chopped? Normal? Slow grunts? The Apes in Planet of the Apes(new ones)?

I always liked the normal pace. Like he shouldnt much all at once. But it should be clear and normally paced.

Haven't posted for a while, heres another update. (That is actually an article from before the last time I posted an article...)
Mark Ruffalo Talks About New Hulk Movie
When asked about a Hulk Solo:
Mark Ruffalo said:
I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did the Avengers it was basically 'NO!', and now there is some consideration for it. But there's still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be, I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut.
Again, old article, and an older quote, but I don't think it was ever posted here.

Ehh that article was from before the revelation of the distribution rights issue with universal.

A bit more news: http://www.cinemablend.com/m/new/Marvel-Complication-Likely-Holding-Up-Solo-Hulk-Films-101857.html
(On mobile, so I didn't make a fancy link or anything, I'll fix it later)
Her3s a Rufallo quote as well, he was asked if a deal could be worked out with hulk similar to what happened with spiderman: "I think they’ve been working on it. Marvel and Universal famously don’t get along very well, and so that’s working against us, definitely. But I know for a fact that everyone is holding out hope that one day we can do it. But the nature of the relationship right now, it’s a little prohibitive. And I hope that that changes, that changes with regimes, it changes over the course of time. But right now it doesn’t look particularly promising."
Tbh though, the sony deal was never possible either. Sony didnt get along well with marvel, and most informed people were saying it wasnt happening. I think if Universal sees how great of a deal Sony is getting, they would rather have a strong franchise than another failed film, or no films at all.

I am no big Hulk fan, but i hope we see soon another solo movie.
They will not make a whole movie with Hulk in space, but i like to see something like this.

What i really like to see is a Hulk vs. Avengers movie - at best like this: "Hulk makes trouble, the Avengers/Illuminatis send him to space, he returns and wants some revenge"!

No, to a Hulk movie please. Like Black Widow, we've already seen him in several movies. Even when Marvel was able to make a Hulk film, it proved to be Marvel's only dud. Marvel will most likely keep Iron Man and Cap for phase 4, and add that to possible sequels for the phase 3 movies, and possibly keeping Black Widow around for phase 4, then what hope is there for Marvel moving forward, exploring new characters if they make a Hulk movie for phase 4?

Also, I don't think phase 4 will be as long as phase 3. The reason why phase 3 is so long, is because I think Marvel is serious about making some big changes to the Avengers lineup.

Possible Phase 4 lineup:

2020:

Doctor Strange 2(Or Inhumans)
Spider-Man 2(Tentative on any deal made with Sony)
GOTG 3

2021:

Black Panther 2
Ant-Man and Wasp 2
Captain Marvel 2

2022:

Avengers 4
New Movie
New Movie

If a Captain America and/or Iron Man movie is needed, then the chances for a Hulk movie is very slim, especially if the new hero movies in phase 3 all turn out to be a smash hit. No way will Marvel choose a Hulk movie over a Black Panther sequel if the first Black Panther makes over 700 mil.

Would anyone want to see a Hulk movie, or how about a movie featuring a brand new character, instead, like Ms Marvel, Spider-Woman, or Nova? Then there's the question if Marvel gets the rights to F4 back.

Fixed. I put 3 instead of 2 by accident.

After the avengers movies released i think Hulk become the more popular. So he deserved one movie.

Exactly! ESPECIALLY, Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of banner, and his hulk particularly. No one would decide not to watch because they have seen enough Hulk, no one has ACTUALLY seen enough Hulk. We have barley heard Hulk talk, or seen his mindset. (Other than, Smash) Supposedly we will see a lot more of Hulk in Thor Ragnarok, and even his intelligent side. But it seems like it would have to draw away from the Ragnarok story to focus enough on Hulk to replace a good solo movie. And if they did focus enough it would ruin the movie. :/
But hey, maybe they can do a good job.

When we get a Hulk movie where there is more Hulk than Banner, then yeah.

Avengers 4
New Movie
New Movie

Hmm...

In phase 1 they showed 4 "new" faces (5 with the Avengers) in six movies.
In phase 2 they showed 2 new faces, and had to keep the other faces going - with the same amount of movies.

In phase 3 they had to continue 5 fanchises (6 with Iron Man, but they did not make a fourth movie) within 6 (!!) movies.
So they had to expand the phase...

And i think, they thought "NOW is the time to see, what is possible".
They wanted to make a Doctor Strange movie, the fans asked for Black Panther and Captain Marvel. And the Inhumans could give them a whole new franchise with many possiblities - after ther success of the Guardians maybe even no big risk for Marvel.
On top, they got the Spiderman franchise back later...

What i mean - if they would have stayed with just 6 movies, they could not show ONE new franchise at all.
Therefore, they had to expand...
Line up changes are just THREE of them, Inhumans is a different case.

So, i do not see any "now it is time for a change"...

I think it will (in the future) be more like "now we will have more team-up movies" AND maybe we see a very special phase 4 - maybe with a story within itself. So "everybody is (almost) in every movie"...

Furthermore, i think we will see the Illuminatis AND F4!
I do not see a "Antman w/ Wasp 2"...
And i still think, that we maybe will see in november 2019 (or even 2018) a fourth movie.

Still the question is, if 2020 is still phase 3 or already phase 4??

I am sure, that we will see in 2020:

1. Guardians of the Galaxy 3
2. Spiderman 2

And i still think, that they will announce "Doctor Strange 2" for November 2019 (if the first movie is a success), we will see a new property in November 2020 - f.e. Fantastic Four.
Or something old like Iron Man, Captain America or Thor. (but they will not show a Iron Man or Captain America movie in November -> would then be GotG 3)

As they did not announce the movies NOW, that means - in my view - that they KNOW what they want to show, but they have to wait for some decisions.
"Success"=Doctor Strange, Spiderman or "contract"=Iron Man, Fantastic Four
Otherwise, they would have announced all three movies already...
But that also means - in my view - that they do not show us a new franchise (other than F4).

If 2020 is already phase 4, we have to continue the following franchises:

1.Doctor Strange
2.Guardians of the Galaxy
3.Black Panther
4.Captain Marvel
5.Inhumans
6.Avengers
7.Spiderman

And i am sure, that we will see at least

8.Iron Man
9.Captain America

Futhermore

10.Fantastic 4
11.Illuminatis

The Illuminatis would also fix the problem with "to many heroes for the Avengers", as Black Panther, Iron Man or Doctor Strange would be a part of the group.
And would fix the "Iron Man/RDJ problem", as they want to show him surely again in "some movies" - f.e. also in "Spiderman 1" (in 2017).

And i am sure, that we see a movie, where HULK is the bad guy - maybe against the Illuminatis, better against the Avengers!
Maybe again in a two-parter...

I do not see it, that they "just do 9 movies (over 3 years)" in phase 4.

PS

I know, that your opinion is, that we will not see Iron Man, Captain America and Thor around after phase 3.
That will not happen - but i am also not sure, if they will do a fourth movie with them.
But they will use them in other movies for sure - RDJ is their draw. Evans wants to continue... "Winter Soldier" was big, "Civil War" will be big...

They will still need them...

I think, we will see something BIG in phase 4. A story throughout the whole phase, with changing line-ups/team-ups for almost every movie, with the final in May 2023 or/and 2024!

The point of phases is for Marvel to plan out future movies leading up to an Avengers film, and given that sequels will have to be made at least every three years, Marvel can't make their phases any longer than three years. This is why phase 3 is just a little too big. Phase 2 lasted from 2013-2015. Phase 3 will be from 2016-2019. That's an extra year. With Doctor Strange, Marvel will have to make two movies on the same character within the same phase. That hasn't happened since Iron Man 2.

The reason why Marvel had so many films in phase 3 was to see if they could mess with the original lineup. In the comics, the Avengers lineup always changed. Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, and especially Hulk, have not always been part of the core Avengers team. But, there rarely has ever been a team without Cap or Iron Man, so I could see either one of those two being part of the new lineup.

Teamup films are all well and good, but what happens for the Avengers movie? Not every movie will be split into two, like Infinity War, so Marvel will have to make a choice on which characters to continue on. I could see the new team consisting of Cap and/or Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Spider-Man(Ant-Man and/or Wasp) if Sony doesn't allow it.

Please not another earth based Hulk film. I don't think an earth based film with The Leader as the villain would be nearly as interesting or groundbreaking as World War Hulk
