Should Jor-El tell Clark Kent to become Superman

Somewhat, I have things Im going to switch up though. I know for sure that CLARK KENT will be the real person, and Superman the disguise.

Nice. (I personally would have neither be a disguise, and have them just be him, you know, but I like Clark being the rela person too :D)

I still say you need some Jon Kent (a la Smallville) telling Clark about the good he's meant to do...inspirational and all...so Clark can choose his own path.

BTW- Is Jon KEnt alive or dead in your version

Dead techinically, but his essence lives on....... atleast for awhile. It ties into the whole Darkseid storyline Im going to do. Smallville HASN'T handled it well, but I think if you birng a little mysticsm into the story and did it well, it could yield some nice results.

I understand what your saying about Kal-El being both Clark and Superman. I try to work that in that Superman is Clark Kent being relaxed and natural, hanging loose so to speak, not worried about what people think. And Ive made up my mind that is Jonathan Kent that will push for Clark to be a force for good, Jor-El simply sent Clark to Earth to live......until Darkseid arrives.Only then does Jor-El take an active role. But I have will right in a plot device that would have given Jor-El the ability to stop Clark had he went to evil named Eradictor lol.

Jeph Loeb said something about Superman that really struck a chord with me. I don't remember what it was exactly, but it was something along the lines of Neither being the "real person" and neither being the "disguise" Clark's true identity exists somewhere between the "clark kent" disguise and the "superman" disguise. Both are really him but just different parts of him. He can't only be one all the time.

So do we get to read this thing when it's finished? Are you looking to publish? Cause frankly whether I'd have to beg you for a copy or buy it at B&N I'd do it. It wounds like you have a good grasp on Supes, as well as an interesting (yet not mythology shaking) approach...I LIKE IT :D

Now that you mention it, I think I remember seeing that on Superman Homepage or something. But yeah, I think Loeb had a take that hit what I think of Clark/Superman right on the head.

Use the John Byrne approach.
Clark is sent to Earth by Jor-el to protect his son and give him a chance to live a productive and meaningful life.
He was sent to the Kent's to learn right from wrong.
Living in a mid-west town, he had to be exposed to the Boy Scout way of doing things. Be helpful. Do the right thing. Be patriotic. Help your neighbors. The Golden Rule.
John Byrne's Clark Kent had some very reasonable discovery loops and did more for the Smallville TV background than anything else.
(They won't admit it, but I'm sure a lot of the stuff in that TV show is based on what the writers took from Byrnes Superman/Smallville/Metropolis series.) He also had a wonderful way of showing Clark doing the Superman thing while staying out of the media watch.
In the TV show, they keep harping about one of the Kryptonian translations as saying his destiny is to "rule". If you take the medival meaning for 'rule' to mean 'protect' then you have the basis for his decision to become a symbol. To become Superman.
