Maybe a DTV. Nowadays if your are going to make a CBM it's got to make more than $300 million or it's a flop. Do you really thing an unpopular character like Steel is going to make that much at the box office in a film?

I'd love to see John Henry part of the new Superman franchise. While I solo film could work, I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Nah. I'd watch it, no doubt, but I'd rather see him as part of Superman's Universe. John Stewart should get a movie. Black Lightning should get a movie. Static should get a movie. Vixen should even get a movie.

John Henry Irons? Not so much, imho.

Ha! I wrote a review for Steel not to long ago. The only way I could see him coming back is if it were in a faithful adaptation of the comics, involving the other Supermen...

Steel should only get a movie if he first appears in a Superman movie and seems to have the appeal to command his own film. You get Steel in a Superman movie and you tag that guy with a giant S. He will have far more appeal to general audiences then a solo movie that has nothing to do with Supes. Steel is popular because of his Superman connection. Catwoman is popular because of her Batman connection. These characters aren't inherently popular.

Sure but he would have to appear in a Superman movie before tryign to give him a solo though. DC has plenty of characters they could make a movie about if only they went about it the right way.

What we need is.....a rotating lineup of lower tier comic book characters like STEEL in TV movies like what they did on NBC with their detectives back in the 80's.

I would like to see a major movie made, but don't think it would be feasable in how they make comic based movies today.

First frak the Shaq version, that's no more relevant than the Adam West version is to the current Dark Knight franchise, who cares.
They need to go back to the source material, and this time take advantage of modern fx. The Steel character, his iconic look with the hammer is an incredible powerful image, and WB/DC needs to own it and put it out there.

Also they should get over their - it must stand-alone - mentality and spin-off Steel from the upcoming Man of Steel franchise.
Superman doesn't need to be dead, he just needs to be seen temporarily down, putting up the good fight to inspire the everyman J.H.Irons to take up the fight and mantle.

Great character, definitely deserves it's own reboot.

I agree with a lot of what you said, however I don't think Superman even needs to be down for John H. Irons to become Steel. Perhaps the appearance of Superman alone would inspire him and others like him. Plus Irons could reason that Superman can't be everywhere at once and he can help the man out.

Also, Dangerman was right on the money.

I would like to see them take another crack at it. If not live-action, an animated film. I was hoping Irons would at least appear on Smallville before it went off the air, oh well.

I'd love to see it. I wouldn't mind writing it.. But tie it into the current Super-verse even if they don't deal with the Doomsday origins.. and give him the full range of abilities.. No basketball players..

The new version should be a darker and grittier style unlike the previous piece of "Beep" version played by Shaq which was a joke. The new one should be about a steelworker named John Irons, a man who works day to day in Metropolis and doesnt enjoy working anymore so one day with the loss of his wife by crooks and wanting no more to do with it, he decided to kill himself so he tries to jump off the construction tower he is working at which is the future site of the new Daily Planet TV building. Jumping off late at night, he is rescued by Superman and from that after considering what has happened he goes home to rest from the incident. A couple days later, Clark Kent appears at his home where he is told of the incident and John tells him he was saved by Superman. As an engineer and inventor of science and expert in computers he uses a program which on it are designs for a armor suit he is designing for safety for workers in construction and explosives. He looks at the design and overnight he redesigns them adding a superman shield, cape, flight tech boots and weapons to see how He looks over the old designs of his work from when he used to work as a weapons engineer for the AmerTech Company which he quit and started working in construction. In a unknown place he owns, a small factory he calls the Steelworks, he has the suit built for himself to help aid in the war to destroy a deadly gun called the BG-60 Toastmaster he designed at the company he found out that was produced and sold on the streets. With his war on the company and the weapons he also faces a new villain threat that has put superman in a deadly kryptonite coma after a intense battle. He finds out that his nephew is part of the gang also that has the weapons. The other characters are Hazard, Blondell, Hardwire who kills the Irons family that pushes John over the edge to kill himself.

The movie NEEDS to have the following:

1:Cameo by Superman and as Clark Kent
2:Full face mask, cape, flight boots and exoskeletal iron man like armor
3:Much better and believable actor as John Henry and someone who can play strong and sensitive and be the best in the role
4: A classic but much updated super strong villain to fight steel and Superman
5: Two armor suits, a prototype that is destroyed then the one he redesigns with flight and more with new tech to fight Metallo

There will be more, please add comments, info and anything else you have an idea for and also post pics of new ideas lets get the movie companies to see this and make a much better film on a great character with much possibilities

I can see Henry Irons as Superman's Lucius Fox.. I'd rather see Irons than Hamilton from STAR labs.. if the filmmakers are serious, they will pursue this angle..

No. WB should focus making movies for more known characters such as Wonder Woman, Flash and of course Justice League.
