Superman Returns Should Superman have told the world he was leaving?

Should Superman have told people he was leaving?

  • Yes-A lil heads up would've been beneficial for everyone esp. Lois

  • No-The recuprusions could've been far worse ie criminal field day

  • Maybe-They could've arranged something w/ Luthor if he did

  • Can't say.

Alot of people are complaining about how Supes just took off w/o giving anyone a heads up. Now whether or not that was right or wrong I can't say but IMO I think he did the right thing.

Think about it...what would've happened if he told the entire world he was leaving? Criminals would've had a field day!

But then again at the same token, if he did tell the world beforehand, perhaps something could have been arranged and the courts could've done something with Luthor?

Maybe he should've told just a few people ala Lois?

Thoughts?

No. Because he went to Krypton to take care of his second family, in which he had ANOTHER child... illegitimately.

criminals still had a field day when they realized that he's gone, so its kinda moot.

Superman (the real Superman we all know) would leave word to SOMEONE, that is a definite. its part of his sense of responsibility. even if he has a hard time saying goodbye to Lois he still would've told the President or Perry or anyone that has to know that he wont be able to take up his usual tasks. he wouldnt just drop everything and go.

that's one of the biggest problems i have with the whole plot. it makes Superman come across as impulsive and irresponsible.

Yeah.....but, if he announces his departure, the criminals just go crazy QUICKER. With him just leaving, it took longer for things to get bad.

There's no one to really tell in his world. There's no Batman, no JLA, no JSA.......he's alone. So....why tell anyone?

Its pretty complicated. He said he wouldn't shirk his duty to protect earth again in sm2. If you take that into consideration, what he did this time was pure superdickery; Also the fact that he slept with lois and left her without saying a thing- Would you do that to your girlfriend/wife? Superman, come on... 1. why would your dad's big hologram head lie to you? 2. where'd kryptonite come from.

but anyway, we on earth would detect his blast off and return entry with our satelites anyway, right? Even if he told the gov he was leaving, what would they do but continue their normal affairs? supes is a great help, but I'm sure they're prepared to handle their business without him to move continents and such. He's never under their payroll anyway so they probably wouldn't care that much.

Superman should've told Lois, at the very least.

It was too hard to........otherwise, he probably could never have left to begin with.

Atleast, that's what he said.

I think the result would still be the same.

If he told the world he was leaving for an unknown amount of time, the world wouldn't understand, they would argue that he is abandoning the earth while he says he will be back, that would continue even after he was gone, after the five years Lois would start to doubt herself and maybe meet Richard then and in the end of it, it would be the same (kid or not).

True.

But, the one thing that would change would be the criminals. They'd had risen QUICKER. That's for sure.

thats why he has to tell someone of responsibility, like my example the President. since he does the crime fighting and his leaving will create a vacuum its common sense that he tells the authorties/ military that they have to step up and pick up his slack.

its also the question of choosing between two evils. should he not inform anyone and everything gets bad gradually? or should he tell someone, risk word of his absence getting out, things go bad quicker but at least humanity is ready for it? even Batman would choose the latter dude.

There is a Batman....but i doubt he and supes talk

Well, we know that they still haven't met...so, in that way, they're not friends..........yet.

Btw.....there aren't any SUPER Powered villians to hit, besides the now dead Kryptonians, so....there's not much slack to pick up in that area.

I guess this is one arguement, the people getting too comfortable with they're "God" and not doing enough to save themselves.

Superman did some soul-searching. last thing on his mind was saving the world. give the guy a break. we can't live our lives depending on him all the time.
anyway, he's back. :)

doesnt matter. Superman does crimefighting. if he's gone the folks who are up to the task should start moving. the fact that there are no supervillains is a lucky break for humanity. you can imagine the shizit the world would wound up in if suddenly Darkseid showed up during Superman's absence.

there's actually a Jor-El quote from the movie that emphasizes this doesnt it?

I remember an episode of LnC where he told the world he was leaving. I mean, lol...he's been working to bring good to the world so hopefully he made an impact.

Personally though, I don't have a problem with it...I mean, Supes has stuff to do and no one is boss :)

do you have tell everyone when your going out? NO so why should he ?>

i'm not Earth's protector ;)

Superman is. :)

He could've told Lois, but I don't think it was necessary.

So, in that case...you might as well get on his case for leaving at all.

But....I don't see how he needed to tell anyone where he was going, or when. They would have just begged him to stay.

"Sir.....Mr. President......please, get off your knees....stop begging me to stay"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......c'mon, everyone would have just begged him to stay.

Anyone else sorta agree with lex? In a way, Supes is kinda holding the earth back....

By constantly saving people when they should be saving themselves...
