Make him less of a superhero like we saw in JLU animated show and more of a detective. Make him scary to the criminals of Gotham, not to the reader. Why is there a tendency to make Batman like a Frank Castle who doesn't murder?

I think it's because they're written by insecure, middle aged men. They're afraid that people will view comics as something childish...therefore, they write stories where Batman is a psychopathic jerk, The Joker cuts of his own face, or Superman and Wonder Woman have sex. They think stuff like that is "adult", but in reality it's "pimply faced, horny teenager". It seems to me that superhero comics are written by the supervillains these days...
 
Yeah. that's why i mostly stick to indie publishers now with lesser known/proto-superheroes or adventure characters like The Phantom, Sherlock Holmes, The Shadow, The Green Hornet etc. Comics haven't really been consistently excellent in probably close to 30 years.
