Just a question I'm going to throw out there..... how many people don't beleive the Holocaust was real?

Bringing this up because I'm at home today, and I decided to watch Schindlers list... and my wife told me how she was raised to beleive that Hitler was a great leader, and that the Germans never killed any jews, and that it was all false propaganda started by them to gain sympathy... much like the Lavon Affair...

She of course, doesn't beleive that now, but her father is a big supporter of said beleifs, and I've actually got into arguments with him about it...

While I don't beleive this is a common conspiracy theory that most people beleive in... it does seem that there are a good portion of people that fall into the line of not beleiving the Holocaust actually happened...

The only person I know who doesn't believe in the holocaust also hates Jews... so. I'm skeptical of the numbers but not the horrors.

I honestly believe a lot of people live in denial about the Holocaust. In a way they can't fathom such an event even being possible. Thus, this feeling turns into anger "How can God allow that to happen" or in a more extreme way "It's impossible, it has to be propaganda!" even with all the evidence.

I think anybody that believes the Holocaust was fake is a biggot and extremely unintelligent. I don't want to offend anybody but this isn't a silly little conspiracy theory. I just really want to slap all of those people...and I'm not even Jewish. It is like saying Darfur didn't and isn't happening. It is just a plot to overthrow leadership and paint them in a bad light

I have never met any Jewish people and I am certain the holocaust is real. I have never heard anyone attempt to say/show that it wasn't.

i was even told that yes, there was camps, but they jews were kept in very lavish homes and treated with the upmost respect and care by the Nazis... that the treatment of the jews by the US and UK was worse

Probably no harm would visit the jews if they confessed that their holocaust story is anti-Germany propaganda that grew and grew out of spite. Back in 1997 many jews thought that if they ever admitted their guilt in The Lavon Affair it would cause their entire house of cards to crumble. The Lavon Affair admission was made and nothing resulted aside from the world voicing "those jews are a bunch of pathological liars". Likely not much would result from a 2009 holocaust retraction either.

Give him a copy of "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", for starters. It's got details about the documentation of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany archived documents. The stuff that came out immediately after the fall of the Nazi government is pretty explicit about what went on. Unless he believes the entire German government and military and civilian population in the immediate aftermath of WWII and the decades since all were in on an elaborate giant conspiracy to fake the Holocaust to the extent that the Germans at the end of WWII created thousands of false documents and fake photos (after building a time machine to travel into the future to get a copy of Photoshop).

Ask him why so many Nazis testified about the reality of the Holocaust, and their own participation in it. Ask him why so many of their stories can be cross-referenced to one another and to official Nazi government documents -- again, he'd have to think the entire German government and military were involved in a vast conspiracy to incriminate themselves by planning in advance all of these documents and getting their stories straight etc to fool everyone into believing in the Holocaust.

Denial that it happened is absurd, and has no foundation in reality whatsoever. Is there false information about it out there? Sure, like anything else of such magnitude and historical significance, and of such horror, there are stories that have changed with each telling and data that's been altered over the years. For example, the total death toll tends to be stated as if it is also the death toll for all of the Jews killed, forgetting that millions of other people were victims as well. The Roma for example are an oft-forgotten -- and indeed, sometimes intentionally left-out -- group of victims. They were even denied participation in official events commemorating the Holocaust, there was a huge controversy over attempts to even mention them in the Holocaust Memorial, and so on. There are denials -- including by groups that represent and support other survivors of the Holocaust -- that the Roma were victims of attempted genocide, despite Nazi documents explicitly calling for their complete extermination in the Holocaust.

There are examples of books by people who claimed to be Holocaust survivors that turned out to be frauds, yet continue to be referenced and quoted to this day. There are examples of claims about furniture made from concentration camp victims (the famous lampshade-of-skin for example) that are based upon myths or completely unverified rumors and claims (the lampshade claim, for example, was due to an erroneously labeled photos after the liberation of Buchenwald).

The horrors and millions of people killed during the Holocaust are all far bad enough that no embellishment is necessary to demonstrate the vile perversions and evils of Nazism. But the fact that one can find this or that individual example of error or erroneous claim over the last 65 years has nothing to do with whether the Holocaust was real. It happened, there is ample evidence that it happened, and anyone who claims otherwise despite the evidence needs to have their head examined.

yeah, pretty much what you said there is what he would beleive when given any concrete evidence to support the Holocaust.

The sad part too... is I'm even ashamed to say it... her grandparents who are from Germany, believe that the Holocaust wasn't that bad, and the Jews got what was coming to them...

don't get me wrong though, because even as insane as it sounds, her grandparents are WONDERFUL people, very giving, and loving... it's just this wierd thing with her family...

I just found the way you posted about it like it was more of a "silly nuance" instead of a bigoted belief they had.
