The right ruling decision was made as it was a good thing for Superman fans, DC Comics, and WB. We can have a Justice League movie with Superman, along with Man of Steel, more Superman animated movies, and a new long overdue Superman animated series. Most of all, we could see a return of the classic costume with red underwear if DC wants to bring it back.
As it stands, it's now 50-50 with DC/ WB and the Siegel family. However, DC/ WB has more power when they have control of Superman trademarks, separate from copyright. I understand that DC has been paying both the Siegel and Shuster family over $4 million since 1975.
The 1992 agreement has sealed the outcome of this case with the Shuster family. Unlike Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster had no direct heirs but rather collateral heirs. He only named his sister as the sole heir in his will. Had the Shuster family not sign the 1992 agreement, they would have gotten their half of the copyright and there would be no Superman in DC Comics.
This shows Marc Toberoff that the Goliath system can't be underestimated.
