Then whats the point of even calling it Smallville if you dont have the characters from the SUPERMAN mythos behave like they do in the comics? Go watch one of the many other melodramatic shows if you want to see something different from the comic book.

Well I dont have to go and watch anything else, because what I want to see is what Smallville is doing.

Thats what started it all, the :supes: comic books. You can't have SV without the other. I just dont get this damn stuborn attitude some display here... :down The comic book came first, not the other way around!

Who said they didnt come first, but is there any crime in introducing a more indepth story.

The ratings also seem to go trough the roof everytime they actualy have a heavy mythos related episode. Thats usually only at the season finale's or the start of a new season. It would make this show so MUCH better if these caracters were perhaps more accurate. Think someone like the Luthors.

Some should remember that at the end of the show there's the DC logo. In other words, it means its an adaptation. Shure it can have different thing than the comics, but messing with the characters cant turn this into a B&R or Superman Lives type material where the characters are changed just for the sake of either spectacle or to fit their story.

How does my comment suggest that they stray from the comic books? I was stating that to get to a point in life (i.e. as is shown in the comics) you have to go through real life situations along the way.

Smallville isnt about being that person because everything that came before it says so, its about showing us why that person is who they end up being.

That means that Lana may have to stray from her original comics book form to make better sense of why she becomes Clark Kent's life long friend.

If you want an exact adaptation of comic books then I believe the cartoon series fits that bill quite nicely.

I would disagree there. I don't think it's an exact adaptation in the least...but then again, nothing is except for the comics.

I agree with both of you, to a point. The show should be free to explore the characters and who they are and how they get to who they become, but to a point they need to adhere to the mythos.

Well I dont really know 'cause I dont watch it. I was just going by on what I had heard. But I'll take your word for it.

It seems that there is no exact copy of the comics out there except the comics themselves.

Oh man. Get your hands on the DVDs.

It may not be a perfect replica, but it's definitely one of the best interpretations of the character to be put on the small screen, ever.

S:TAS is to Superman as B:TAS is to Batman. :supes:

"exact adaptation" is kind of an oxymoron. if it was exact it wouldnt be an adaptation, it wod be a replica or a copy. right?

oh, and the comics have changed his continuity so many times, whos to say which is right?

Exactly! It's nice to note differences and similarities (I still think that line, "Just because I'm gorgeous doesn't mean I'm stupid," is eyeroll worthy LOL), but individual characterizations and the greater story in general adapt and change with each new generation. Even though it *started* in pulp fiction comics, other media such as radio, television and films contribute aspects to the mythos which have later become canon. Furthermore, each interpretation has both good and bad points. John Byrne, anybody? :p

Agreed Though I think I like how IC and Superman this is your life touched on all these issue. And how Earth-2 Superman doesn't think Superman was evil but lost because he has no idea of his past.

Although the new origin of Superman and Batman will be told in Sept. with the Superman Confidential and Batman Confidential arc. For all you comic readers and Superman fans who want to keep up with the origin check this out.
