I finally watched the first movie a few weeks ago. It's been a long long time since a horror movie freaked me out like that.
I was and still am abit miffed why barbarian was reviewed and rated better by critics and fans alike. Smile to me was more of a traumatic ride with a genuine creepy atmosphere. Sosie Bacon was a major highlight for me, she had to display alot of range to sell her part. Ive only watched it twice since the cinema release just because of the lingering imagery and watching Sosie's character spiral. In some ways i think the trailer threw people off but the marketing was pretty good. The last movie messed me up good and I felt was better and more coherent than Barbarian. This sequel's has the potential to take the grim ending of the last one and make it apocalyptic.
Sequels getting greenlit quick is far from new. Hell, Saw used to be a yearly series, remember?I was and still am abit miffed why barbarian was reviewed and rated better by critics and fans alike. OT. Smile 2 looks to be more of the same, Noami has the range to pull it off and liking the popstar angle as people in general will smile in her presence (as the trailer partly showed) So im definitely watching on release day. Kinda taken back by how quickly this was green lit and made i could swear i liked the post that announced it like it was yesterday lool
I am intrigued to see how they show the entity again, easily one of the most disturbing parts of the original
Yeah true man i guess the timeframe threw me off lol Yes i do believe the intrigue is what got alot of people invested. The trailer for Fmile from what i remember had generic feedback/reception and from my own circle it got passed off as Truth or Dare (2018) clone. Word of mouth helped in the end but as you mentioned Barbarian didn't have the payoff that Smile did. I was mentally exhausted when it finished.Sequels getting greenlit quick is far from new. Barbarian I think was better reviewed because of how vague and little the trailer showed and people didn't know what, if anything, to expect. But honesty, when I think the word "Barbarian" I think of something like Conan or a really deranged, murderous killer in a horror movie like Jason, Leatherface, etc., not "Crazy naked inbred lady". Makes me skeptical of that director's next movie and why it's called "Weapons".
You don't want Dazzler to be played by Taylor Swift?I’m obsessed with Naomi Scott’s hairstyle in this. Can she play Dazzler next?
