This thread is meant to compare and contrast two excellent CBMs that are otherwise forgotten in all of these Marvel vs Fox vs DC threads.

Personally, I prefer Snowpiercer. I liked The Edge of Tomorrow but I didn't love it as many others did.

Snowpiercer:
- Built an entire internally cohesive world which included the production design of the sets and the costume design of the characters;
- Had several good performances like that of Tilda Swinton;
- Had some creative action scenes like the rifle sniping across the train as the train was turning the mountain;
- Fulfilled its own themes. They're similar to those of Matrix Reloaded, but they're implemented and explored successfully;

In the recent best CBMs of 2014 poll, Snowpiercer was not even an option for voting relative to Days of Future Past, etc. I and a few others voted for "other".

I'm gonna watch Snowpiercer tonight on Netflix. I've never seen it

Edge of Tomorrow for me. One of my fav films.

If it weren't for the last act, I would say Snowpiercer, hands down. Tilda Swinton in particular was amazing, as was the cinematography and general story. I still love the movie. But the whole part with Ed Harris was a bit too heavy-handed for me.

Edge of Tomorrow, on the other hand, did everything it wanted to do brilliantly, imo. I'm not even bothered by the end, which I know a lot of people harp on, and it definitely reeks of a studio's demand for a happy ending...BUT I think it still works within the internal logic of the film; it just requires the viewer to fill in a few extra blanks themselves.

Snowpiercer certainly had more to say as a film, but EoT gets my vote by a hair for the success of its execution.

Snowpiercer. I agree with Flickchick that the last act is weaker than the rest, however I actually liked the protagonist unlike in Edge of Tomorrow. Something about Tom Cruise just doesn't click with me and I found myself the whole film wishing they either cast someone else or it was a film about Emily Blunt's character. That and the ending just didn't work for me.

Two very different movies to my mind. One is a trippy art film the other is plainly trying to be a well crafted popcorn action adventure film. Gun to my head (having greatly enjoyed both)... EoT. By a hair.

Edge of Tomorrow is apparently NOT a comic book movie. From what I understand, it was a novel first, then adapted into a manga, and then adapted into a movie. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is my current understanding.

Snowpiercer is one of my favorite science fiction movies of all time. It's one of the few movies that I've watched multiple times soon after my first viewing. In fact, I liked it more with each subsequent viewing. It is DEEP with political messages, which is important for me in sci-fi. Heck...The Interview got all the hype, but Snowpiercer THRASHED North Korea in virtually every scene. An absolutely stellar movie.

Edge of Tomorrow was very, very good. I expected mediocrity, and got a way better than average sci-fi film.

I was really enjoying snowpiercer up until the very end, just wasn't s fan.

But EoT I was loving it throughout.

So my vote goes to EoT but I still like Snowpiercer despite my gripes with the ending

Light Novels are many times confused with mangas, but that doesn't make them comic books, they're still novels. Have yet to watch Snowpiercer.

Snowpiercer has an awful plot twist that makes 0 sense, so Edge of Tomorrow wins for entertainment values.

Yeah Snowpiercer was a novel. And theyre such different movies i dont see the point of comparing them.

Edit: brain fart. Reverse it.

OK, bye then.

Edge of Tomorrow for me. I didn't Iike Snowpiercer's third act at all.

I liked Snowpiercer but loved Edge of Tomorrow. The humor in EoT was pitch perfect.

I'm really confused at why people didn't like the third act/end of Snowpiercer. I thought it was awesome and helped bolster the overall concept.

I prefer the manga of All You Need is Kill. The characters are better and so is the weaponry.

Just watched Snowpiercer. What a movie. I still don't know what to think. Evans was fantastic though!

Gotta go with Edge of Tomorrow probably.

Guess I'm one of the odd men out when it comes to the third act of Snowpiercer, I absolutely loved it and while I digged Eot quite a bit, my vote still goes to Snowpiercer.
