And Lucy will be played by Jessica Alba and hook up with Caspian. :o

Don't forget it has to star one of Will Smith's kids and the new Asland:

Seems there was more to the story than we thought...

Why Narnia Fell
What made Disney dump the franchise?
by Jim Vejvoda

January 21, 2009 - Although the less than stellar box office returns for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (at least compared to what the previous installment, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, earned), has been the most widely touted reason why Walt Disney Pictures dumped the Narnia franchise last month, a new report suggests that a rift between Disney and production company Walden Media may have been to blame.

According to The Los Angeles Times, "what really derailed Disney's involvement with Narnia was a nasty feud between the studio and [Walden Media owner] Phil Anschutz, the real estate baron and supporter of Christian conservative causes who seems to own half of America."

The paper added that "the once-close relationship between Disney and Walden began to unravel when, after the first Narnia film cleaned up at the box office, Anschutz essentially put a gun to Disney's head and demanded that the studio renegotiate its deal with Walden. Anschutz insisted that Disney either gave back a sizable chunk of the studio's lucrative distribution fee or Anschutz would distribute the Narnia series on his own. Believing the franchise was too good to give up, Disney reluctantly changed the terms of its Walden deal, but the renegotiation poisoned relations between the two behemoths. When the second film faltered, there was so little good will left over that Disney had far less qualms about cutting its ties with the franchise."

The fate of the series' oft-delayed third installment, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, has been another lingering question ever since the Disney-Walden divorce was announced. The Times reports that Walden Media could announce a deal with a new distributor "as early as later this week."

Among the reported Narnia suitors are 20th Century Fox (the likeliest contender considering its past relationship with Walden Media), Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures.

^Interesting to say the least, but I still dont want Fox anywere near this, not unless Walden has total control, and Fox just distributes.

Agreed, but the article also states Warner and Sony are interested...I'd prefer Warner to distribute, followed by Sony and then Fox way, way last.

Yep, sounds like something a certain mod suggested awhile back...

I'm not sure this is going to happen, but it would make a lot of sense. WB/Legendary should really jump on this film. If they joined with Walden, it would really spread the cost around. If successful, WB has it's next Harry Potter with 4 other books to be developed and brought to the big screen. The 4th one could very well end up in IMAX due to WB's relationship with them. WB/Legendary and Walden really would have nothing to lose because of the spreading of the cost.

Don't ever make Showtime look smart. But yes WB would be wise to pick this up and make it their next Harry Potter.

SHHHHH, dammit! Showtime might hear you, and then we'll never hear the end of it! :hehe:

hopefully, WB will pick it up so it will have a steady franchise after harry potter - roughly the same genre.....of course that could be the same reason they dont pick it up....?

I honestly feel like the only three stable studios out there are Columbia/Sony, Paramount, and most recently Warner Bros. WB had a crappy year in 2006 but look at them in 2008 and 2009.

Columbia..is doing well with their comedies but they haven't done a big Summer movie in a while. I think Paramount is a safe choice too.

I would avoid Fox; hell, the article even mentions their business practices with their films (excluding the awesome Fox Searchlight)

Columbia has done Hancock... I think they have a couple of big summer films slated for 2009 as well. Fox needs the franchise the most. Call me crazy, but I think it would actually suit the franchise... since Caspian was basically all action and nothing else... could have easily been less than two hours. I don't know what the premises of the books are, but if its big battles like that, Fox will do well with it. Plus they need some Holiday films.

You can't say Caspian was all action. The first half of the film, actually had very little. And LWW only had the giant set piece at the climax, aside from a few skirmishes early on in the film.

The books, like LOTR have some substance behind them and I fear that with FOX at the helm, they'll completely disregard those aspects for the sake of making a bare bones action film that will simply appeal to the teeny boppers and kids with ADD. Just as they did the X-franchise.

My gut feeling, FOX will destroy this franchise.

Of course they will... but I doubt WB will pick this thing up as they are set with Hobbit. I don't think the franchise will be much better off anywhere else... unless these studios have limited creative control.

New Line has LOTR/The Hobbit. WB has Harry Potter...but as others have mentioned, once that series is finished, they may or may not be interested in tackling another fantasy franchise.

Sony sounds like a good choice.

:up:There is no way you could sau PC was just an action movie, it barely had any action other than the 2 main action scene's, that statement is ludicrous!

WB own New Line and since New Line folded, Wb own LOTR/The Hobbit.

Just watched this On Demand, and I have to say it was an enjoyable little diversion. I have to give kudos to the CGI team for this franchise though...they can make anthropomorphic talking animals look seamless and I don't even keep thinking "it's CG, it's so fake."

They do an awesome job particularly with their human+animal creatures like the centaurs. They look amazingly real. Where as in Harry Potter they look stupid.

I watched PC a few weeks ago -- enjoyable but was way too long. This is one movie that would've benefited from not extending/adding filler to pad the movie's length. The first flick was more enjoyable.

I hope Sony or Warners jumps on this. I mean, HP will end in two years' time and LOTR will be done a year after HP -- there are 4-5 more books in the Narnia series that could be produced in profitable movies. And as Showtime said, Warners could co-fund it alongside Walden and Legendary and lessen their losses if VOTDT bombs.

^Exactly, to be honest, I hope anyone but Fox gets their hands on it.

I told you to quit making him look smart. He gets all of his opinions of off IMDB and AICN anyways.
