Since we don't have actual numbers obviously :p ... What kind of numbers do you expect to see for this film knowing what we know now?

Let's start at the big picture, worldwide numbers.

Probably Iron Man like numbers which is what is required really

It's hard to say without knowing other details, such as the full cast, the FX company, story, and composer...I do think that with the right sort of cast and story, the sky's the limit tho.

I have my own personal hunches and can imagine how this will be presented to the general public. You have to take a look at the release date and factor in competition as well.

But it's too early to make a call here.

I have a feeling it will be around $600 million. <--- Hopes.
Depends on the amount of action, the cast, and the advertising.

One hand, it seems like theyre going the super commercial, transformers route; I mean Zack Snyder is the freaking director. On the other, seems like theyre going award-friendly epic, I mean, Chris Nolan pretty much runs the show.

my guess is we get something very much in vein of the first Spiderman movie; an above average crowd pleaser. If it the big tent pole of the december for that year, it will be enormous. It could go anywhere from 400 to 1 billion, though if the hobbit opens within a month of it, cut that number in half.

i only chose 'At least match Superman Returns at 390,000' because i don't wanna jinx anything...

...honestly it's too early to guess. we don't have confirmation on the script, we don't have any visuals, etc. we just have a director and the main star. i'll start discussing the box office possibilities in about half a year when we have more info.

I know he's most likely your favorite superhero but let's be realistic here, Superman Returns left a bad taste in the GA's mouth (I thought it was a decent film though). I think anywhere between 300 million and 500 million dollars would be a reasonable estimate.

I really like Superman :supes:, but I'm just being honest we've seen what a bad taste from a previous film (Hulk 2003) could do to a film that's actually pretty good (The Incredible Hulk).

Granted Superman's more popular than Hulk, but you get the idea...no hard feelings :)

Oh snap...I forgot its winter 2012 when it comes out, so it probably won't have time to make much before the end comes. Oh well, as long as I can see it two or three times first, i'm good.

I'm hoping for Iron Man numbers.

That would guarantee an ongoing franchise.

enough for a sequel! if its the quality of BB and makes only BB numbers, i dont care as long as the franchise continues.

If it makes at least $250m domestic and another $250m internationally Warner's will be happy and greenlight a sequel which they'll expect to make even more.

Over 1 Million Dollars?

I usually don't usually speculate, but I think it's best to wait until there's something to work off of like trailers, TV spots, etc.

I'd say the best route as far as trailers goes is to do what was done with Star Trek and Inception: eventually releasing a trailer that sticks with people and uses a score not heard anywhere else that is so great, people use it all the time in their fan trailers or when heard, it's always associated with Superman. Trailers are a work of art and should be treated as such.

It's about a year too early to make an educated guess on the numbers..

But if you want a hunch I'd take a stab in the dark & say your talking £500m or so, I'd like to think this will outdo Superman Returns quite easily..

It all depends on the look of the film, the trailer, the hype, the promotional releases etc.

EDIT - Casting a Brit in the role, while unintentional, has created an early talking point of the film dispite it not even going into production. I don't recall Routh's casting Superman Returns getting any sort of talking point/mentions so early..

It is clear theyre going the light and bright, flashy type of look for the movie. Snyder= money shots galore; Cavill has a pretty face, etc.

If the film is good, it could be monsterous...

Well, correct me if I am wrong but the reason SR had such a massive budget was because WB was tacking on all the costs of the failed attempts to get the Superman franchise back on it's feet for 19 years. If SR had cost say what BB or IM1 cost, then it would have been considered a success with it's $390M WW gross(BB only had $371M). If it's done nothing else, SR has taken care of all that old debt so that Snyder's Superman shouldn't get any extra amount tacked on that would make profitability more difficult. So I see this film costing in the 150-175M or so range rather than the 250M SR got stuck with. So at a budget or 150-175M, even it it just made 400M and got into the X-men range it would still be successful enough to warrant a sequel which might do even better business.

You know what's cool? A Billion Dollars. :woot:

I gotta stop watching the Social Network.

The budget for Superman Returns was 209 million, and the budget for this movie is going to be 200 million.

I agree with you, they should take the budget down to about 150 million and see how successful this movie is before they start talking 200 mill again.

I believe that was the budget w/o all the past attempts included. Even then, it's still too high. Considering the fact that Superman's powers are pretty straight forward and have been compitently shown even in TV shows with TV budgets there isn't any reason his films should cost more than Batmans. Spidey, Iron Man, Hulk, etc. all require extra CGI and such due to the nature of those characters which means higher budgets but Superman shouldn't need nearly their level of CGI.
