Not sure about the best place to get started, but I can guess the best place from a mind-set perspective, i.e. you have to be able to accept the fact that no matter what side you're on, usually at least half of the people you serve will hate your guts. If you can deal with that, then you're starting in the right place mentally, I guess.

There is no protocol for where you need to get started. Businessmen, physicists, chemists, teachers, preachers, radio hosts, etc. have gone on to become Congressmen or even governors.

If I ever get into politics, I plan to start at the state or city level, depending on where I end up.

Ya, i always wanted to get into politics and though )8 would be the year, but the surprise start of a family kinda slowed my plans. I am hoping to get more involved locally when i get some more time and see where it takes me.

Actually most get started the way Sarah Palin did: they feel a surge of civil duty from ties to their local teaching administration.
They join their local PTA, find that they like the flavor of giving-opinion in their mouth, and can't get enough. PTA is the path to the city administration, and so forth.

I'm going to join a Politcal Party this week, on thrusday. I would like to run for State Congress in a Few Years.

I don't know if I should say but i'm an open book. Well i'm currently on my City council in my second term. Next year i'm going to run for County Commissioner, then in 8 years for Congress, then in 12 years Governor of Florida. And then if I still feel I can be of some good to people I will run for President of the United States in 2036!

Politics is defiantely a career path I've thought about. I'd like to study law and political science. I'm 18 now and have thought about running for Sycamore, IL's mayor. Maybe run for Congress for IL-14 ("The fightin' 14th"), Senate or for Governor.

I'd like to serve Illinois, then maybe go national. Presidential even. I have 17 years to fill before I can run for President, 12 until I can run for Senate, and 7 until I can run for Congress.
