So, I got offered the chance to witness someone getting killed...

You were saying that counseling works, and I was simply pointing out that it doesn't all the time, nor do the people in a neighborhood care whether or not a child molester has completed the counseling. They find out a child molester moved in, they want it to move out.

So it's not a strawman. It's just something that irritates you

Once again, you're wrong. And I'm not irritated, but you know...continue asusming things, it's what you seem to be about.

I said counseling was worth trying. I didn't say it worked all the time. I know it doesn't work all the time. So discussing a child molestor is off-topic and an attempt to win an argument that we're not even having.

Besides, you're the only one that seems irritated. I'm talking about this topic. I hold nothing against you or anyone else, to even think that suggests where your mind is..

A bit harsh, don't you think....I support the death penalty but I do think the legal system should be a bit more judicious in how it is meted out

It'd cost even more than it does now. Are you willing to pay for it?

My mocking comment wasn't directed at the racist **** that is scheduled to die, which Byrd Man received an execution invite. I was mocking the guy you mentioned who is building dollhouses in prison.

Dude....Your words show how biased you are about this case. Calling him a racist **** is pretty unprofessional. Please calm down. If you're going to be so set on your opinion and views, then how can we even discuss this?

"Winning arguments" is something I consider meaningless . I'm enjoy discussing things for discussion's sake. Calling something "off topic" is reserved solely for the mods or the thread starter, which is this case isn't you.

As for irritation, that only happens when I brush up against poison ivy by accident.

I'm proud of my bias against racist individuals

I don't believe that...some people can be helped and some people are simply broken on the inside

Being broken only means that it's not easily fixed.

You ever fix anything, BlackLantern? I used to collect figures, when I was a kid. Still do, I just don't open the packages anymore. But when the figures broke, I could either buy a new one or I could FIX the old ones I had. It was more fun (and money saving) to fix my old figures. Either by repainting them, or by getting special putty to connect the arm of a figurine or whatever.

That time spent fixing and mending gave me patience, a sense of satisfaction and memories. A rainy summer day, playing doctor by operating on a broken X-men figure...good times. And I would love the figure because of it.

Fixing a person isn't so easy. But as a last LAST option, I would have had to throw my toys away if they could not be fixed. And I had a few dollars to buy the new figure, so it didn't matter because of that. It just sucked losing something that I had for years.

People are saying kill this man because of what he has done. I doubt that there was much counseling and help for this man while he was in prison. And no one has even heard from him on this board. He could be sorry for what he has done...And yet, here these people are. Ready and willing to let him die. Watch him die without a chance.

If this is the world we live in, where there is seemingly more care for a toy then a person...no wonder he is the way he is....or was.

Wow. I didn't mean for this to break out into a debate on captial punishment. Anyway, I went ahead and said I would be a witness if they need me, I have a feeling I wasn't the only one to volunteer and they need two, so my chances are slim.

1. Don't talk down to me....trying to teach me some sort of lesson with this "fixing toys in the summer" parable....

2. Being a black man living in this country, it is people like this why I and countless other black people are still viewed by many as "less than" in this country....now hating someone isn't illegal, but when you use that hate as justification for killing you don't get to be fixed, you should not be allowed the opportunity to be fixed.

3. People like this are indoctrinated from a very young age...Id be willing to bet that this guy, way deep down, doesn't believe he did anything wrong

If the last sentence is true, why all the angst and sarcasm? If you just want to discuss it, then why don't we discuss it? All you've been doing is arguing with me about what I think and acting like you need to "win".

Which brings us to the first part of this post. This isn't a card game, "off topic" is not some kind of wild card for use by the dealer. You started talking about child molesters. That has nothing to do with this conversation, and just doesn't belong. I already explained why. I don't feel like you're really even reading my comments anyway, so I'm not going to repeat myself.

I get the sinking feeling that, despite your saying you want to have discussion, you're only skimming along looking for parts to argue with. Maybe you find entertainment in fighting/arguing.

You're mixing personal feelings with a story that has nothing to do with you. You've said over and over again that you hate racists and that you admit openly to being opinionated. So we're done. I don't want to argue with you. I'm talking to many different people about this. Not just you. And I don't enjoy the angst that you're emanating.

Take care..

I'm a news reporter for a radio station in rural Georgia. I got an email today from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and Georgia Department of Corrections to witness an execution in two weeks.
...

So, shall I RSVP yes or no?

I strongly oppose the death penalty, with a few exceptions for certain cases. But if I was a news reporter in rural Georgia, then I would accept this offer in a heartbeat. You might be able to use this as an opportunity to educate those of us who have no clue about what really goes on with this procedure, or what it means. You might gain a new perspective on this issue that will change your life, somehow. But if you really feel that you can't handle watching it...like it will severely and permanently disrupt your mental health or well-being...then I can understand if you'd rather not do it.

1. I was -SHARING- with you. That was a real story that really happened. And I thought of you as being older than me. I just assumed you were like 24, because up until now, you came off to me as very respectable and mature. Finding insult in my being open is, however, making me feel that maybe I was wrong...

2.Ah. See but he's not on death row for killing a black man, now is he? Hmmm....Personal hatred, huh?

3. Maybe not, but your problem is you said "people like this", not THIS GUY. (not yelling at you, I'm just too lazy to bold for emphasis) Everyone is individual, you can't just solve everyone's problems from a text book.

I mean isn't that the very problem with racism? Black people are like this, black people do that..Black people are very different and have no difference structurally from white people, asians or spaniards. It's the human race....not the black white or tan one...

So many people are so adamant about this. You could argue the concepts of what power means. I mean....I've had people say things to me, when I know I could destroy them. And I turned the other cheek. Why? Because that is honor. Picking your fights and knowing how to be calm.

You get punched in the face and say, given the circumstance, "Why are you like this? How can we make things better?"

Others get punched and instantly retaliate or want to retaliate....

A man lived a hard racist life and because of a stupid action is going to be killed. You're all on the outside looking in, so a lot of people are saying petty things. But for one second, look at this man's life from his eyes.

If you're all admitting that he was probably raised this way, how is he to blame for following the rules of the world he lives in? Why -would- he follow your rules?

No, it wasn't for killing a black person...it was for killing a man who refused to kill others and the article does state the man has maintained his innocence to this very day. I feel that some people can be reached and some can't....I'm definitely not a "Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" type but I do think capital punishment is merited in some cases

as for racism...the hardcore types are raised from birth to believe that anyone that isn't white isn't a "human being"...that they are animals to be executed and the white man is the supreme ruler of the world...the only way to fix that is if the person themselves realizes that life is more than 'White Power'

you think rather highly of yourself, don't you?? I can destroy them but I choose to turn the other cheek....look at how virtuous I am...ha ha:hehe:

No. I'm being honest. I am a varsity wrestler with a background in judo, jujitsu, aikido and tae kwondo.

Ummm...The kid was a fat jerk who wanted to make fun of me because I talked about comic books and liked anime.

What is your problem that you keep finding insult in personal stories that I share?

If you are a serious news reporter... Go for it..

You other guys just need to chill :/

Because this isn't about you.....it's about that poor soul sitting in a jail cell....I tend to be wary of people that use "personal stories" to try and win an argument or appear right....

Dude. I like you. I like talking with you. I'm sorry that I thought maybe we could make more sense to each other with examples. Excuse me for thinking we were eFriends....

I generally think I'm cool with everyone here (Except for a few....*glares*), so I want to talk to people from their human side not their petty "I'm online so let me say harsh things that I might not be so quick to thing were I in the other person's shoes"...

I think the way I think because of who I am. So did he. It's not about me. You're right. It's not about me. But that's why I thought that a personal example is the best way to discuss this. Who we are makes up what we do.

But who we can be is there to...

I really don't feel like discussing this anymore. I feel like this is entirely pointless, I was never trying to change your mind or Addenum's or "win". I wanted to just state my opinion and hope someone would say "Well, when you phrase it like that. Maybe it's something to think about.." But you both just want to argue.

So fine. Argue. Don't listen to me. Treat me like the bad guy. Jesus spoke of peace too and look what they had to say about him. Look what they did to him. Martin luther king....So on so forth.

It has nothing to do with greatness...It has everything to do with the topic. "Peace" is something that people don't seem to want.

For real. I didn't mean to create such a debate, I just wanted people to answer me honestly if they would go or not.

Since I've decided, might need a mob to close this bad boy or move it to politics

I didn't say I wasn't listening to you....my whole point is let's discuss what's on the table....to witness an execution is rather daunting, it can affect people in different ways....I hope the thread starter (Byrd Man) gives it a long hard thought

As a regular person I would NOT go... but if I were a reporter or someone in the news industry I think it would be a mistake not to go.

Just my opinion... Hope it helps.
