Daily Record/Sunday News
Jan 17, 2007 A Dallastown woman, missing since Jan. 10, is believed to have been killed by an ex-boyfriend who later committed suicide rather than report to Adams County Prison for a parole violation, according to police and court records.
Jennifer A. Kruszynski was last seen in a 1979 Chevy pickup with Joseph Brenner, 41, who shot himself in the head Saturday in Mount Pleasant Township, one day after failing to report to Adams County Prison, according to police and court records.
Police initially focused their search for the body of the 36-year-old woman in the area of two West Manheim Township reservoirs after Joseph Brenner's 18-year-old son, Justin, told investigators he helped his father dispose of the body in a river, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
But, based on the latest information gathered, police do not believe Justin Brenner helped dispose of the body, according to Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Michael Gillelan and Sgt. Rod Varner of York Area Regional Police.
Justin Brenner also told police he spent a whole day cleaning the truck for his father on Jan. 11, one day after Kruszynski was last seen alive, according to court records.
Police do believe he did clean blood inside a truck where Kruszynski may have been killed.
Police found blood believed to be Kruszynski's on the outside and inside of the pickup truck, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by state police.
Police secured a warrant to search Justin Brenner's Mount Pleasant home in Adams County for evidence, including blood, hair and fibers.
Investigators also have several statements from witnesses who stated Justin Brenner said his father told him he killed some woman, and he helped his father dispose of the body in a river and cleaned up his father's pickup truck afterward, according to police and court records.
Justin Brenner later told police his father was very upset at having to go back to prison, and he was going to kill himself, according to court records.
Joseph Brenner said he was going to take care of some business before he committed suicide, according to court records.
Joseph Brenner's body was found behind the Adams Drive home of his ex-wife, Lisa, and son, Justin, in Mount Pleasant Township. He committed suicide with a gunshot to the head, according to police.
When asked about Kruszynski's disappearance, Justin Brenner told investigators he (Joseph) killed her because she ruined his life, according to court records. In one suicide note, Joseph Brenner admits he made Kruszynski suffer, according to police and court records. Police say the blood inside the truck indicates Kruszynski suffered injuries as a result of Brenner's actions.
According to police, Kruszynski had Joseph Brenner arrested for trespassing at her home, which led to his probation being revoked in Adams County. According to court records, Joseph Brenner had pleaded no contest to a simple assault case in 2000 and a harassment in 1995. The assault case was the basis of revoking his probation, according to police.
Justin Brenner has not been charged in connection with Kruszynski's disappearance. He was charged with terroristic threats and harassment for allegedly getting into an argument with his mother, Lisa Brenner, according to court records.
The charges stem from a Jan. 13 incident where Justin Brenner threatened to kill his mother, according to court records. Justin Brenner is being held in Adams County Prison on $15,000 bail. A Jan. 18 preliminary hearing date is scheduled before Adams County District Justice Daniel Bowman.
I knew this woman too. She is - or she was, anyway - a customer at where I work...
