Steven Spielberg is pretty good at walking the fine line between PG and R. Back in the day it was a controversy when he somehow finagled a PG rating for Poltergeist (which happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time).

In fact, I think it was Poltergeist that directly led to the MPAA creating "PG-13" a few years later.

Everything I've read, cites all three films... with Poltergeist being the one that started the whole debate.

Like I said, Spielberg is a genius at walking this weird dichotomous fine line. He's a genius. Come to think of it, I wonder what a Harry Potter movie would be like in his hands.... man, that would be awesome.

Me too brutha. Me too. As a matter of fact I plan on having it be my daughter's first real horror movie (she just turned eight) next year or so. The only scary thing she's seen is JP and Gremlins (only recently). Poltergeist is next!

i let my son (who is nine now) watch some pretty crazy stuff growing up but i would seriously reconsider letting your daughter watch that movie. a little girl gets taken by ghosts and monsters from her parents while she is sleeping in her own bed. combine that with the face tearing scene, that thing in the closet, the tree, the clown, the pool. maybe you have forgotten but poltergeist is a seriously scary movie and specifically plays on many common childhood fears. if you want to scare the **** out of your child, possibly give her serious trauma (im not kidding) and have a crowded bed for months go for it. i suggest you reconsider what is in the best interest of your childs well being and start with something a little tamer.

No, I'm dead serious. Because at the end of it all (sequels notwithstanding) it is FAMILY that saves the day. It's a fantastic movie.... a fantastic allegory.... on so many levels. Quite simply one of the greatest movies ever made.

Yeah, you're missing the point. I don't think Transformer should be rated R but it is possible to make a kick ass R-rated TF movie that makes alot of money.
