Yes to everything being said in this thread. GOD YES!
I dunno, I wish I could have a word with Joey Q, I really do. I won't ranr or threaten to kill him, but I'll be honest.
He's done so much good for Marvel, been part of some great ideas and stories. He's really hands on, creative, and has done a lot to push the comic medium forward, and into the eyes of the general public. Sadly, this has given him an ego the size of Uganda.
He had a good idea of putting Jenkins on PP:SM, and very intentionally telling the fans that the new direction of Spidey was to make his stories simpler, funny again, and get back to the core of what makes the charachter special. He also had the great idea of sticking JMS on Spidey, (We all HAVE to admit, JMS was brilliant for the 1st half of his run.) Just 'cause of those things, he seems to think that he understands what makes a good Spidey story, and he won't listen to anyone else
He's intent on thinking Spidey was best in his teen years in high school, (although 90% of Spidey fans weren't even born when Spidey was a teen.) He won't listen to anyone about the MJ thing, (once again, maybe about 70% of Spidey fans out there didn't start reading Spider-Man comics until after his marriage.) Strangely enough, even Brian Bendis argues with Joey Q about all things that are Spidey. Especially the marriage thing. The s**ty twist in Sins Past was his idea, proving he knew nothing of Gwen's character, which also means he knows nothing of spidey folklore.
I can can go on for ages, but some things are clear. He's a big DD fan, always has been, so DD books underhis watch have been phenomenal. If he says that Spidey was his best as a teen, well, that means he couldn't be THAT fond of Spider-Man stories afterward. If you're not a big fan of the source material, HOW ON EARTH can you have good ideas to take the charachter forward? Or just create good plots and situations?????????????
I know what I'm saying makes sense, it's simple!!! But he's far to egocentric right now to entertain the thought that he should listen to SOMEONE else about Spider-Man's direction. Hell, although I'm finding the stories right now oddly compelling, even MARK MILLAR who had the entire Civil War idea that is reshaping the MU, wrote Spider-Man on the otherside. WHile it's going to be interesting seeing Spidey deal with the biggest mistake of his life, JQ HAD to force everone's hand, and make Spidey out himself in public.
Can anyone say 'hype?' or 'shock tactics?' How about 'acts of desperation?' Lol
