Somewhere in Africa, a child died but Jesus gave Mary J. Blige a Grammy

That's what I get for putting Jesus in the title of my thread. Jesus must be imploring these Christians to raid the boards and set us heathens straight. I used to be a devout Christian and a missionary. Like me, one day you'll wake up and realize that God is a fairytale and the bible is a book written by men. There is no supernatural being watching over us and we are all alone here on this rock. And we will die here on this rock like the millions of others that proceeded us.

I read the thread with interest and others wanted to question certain statements.

I have contributed to a range of threads since joining and am not trying to set you straight. I am choosing to show my thoughts as you are.

I have my faith and it does me well.

You have made your decision and I trust it works for you.

In the end we only have the decisions we make and the choices we make to look back on.

I didn't know giving money and food to the poor as well as volunteering my time for Habitat for Humanity was causing me to ruin my own country. I had better stop.
Please continue, and tell us pagans how wonderful your ways are so that we may extol your virtues o' wonderful councilor. :whatever:

Thanks for proving my point you self-righteous prick. One day you'll wake up with crusty sperm covered sheets and realize that even if there was a God, he has a lot more to worry about to be bothered where you put your four inches of pulsating flesh.

God gave Adam and Eve the choice.

We would not want to be automatons or is that your preference?

Without free will, how can he be a loving God? How can he allow us to be created with a spirit and a soul and not be free to make choices for ourselves?

I prefer to know that God loves me enough to give me choice, while also having the complete frame of time worked out already and with plans in place to cover my a** when I blow it.

That is a loving God.

Anyhow.

Cheers all. Good night.

So when it comes down to it..Eve was an idiot???
Just kidding...I don't want an answer.
I respect your believe. ;)

I will let you bask in your internet glory. I am glad you have such a glowing outlook on your life and your contributions to your fellow man. It's sad how defensive you get at your pompous lifestyle yet you do nothing about others. Your goal of this thread was to show a mirror image of how messed up our world is because a singer can praise God for a grammy yet there is millions of starving kids in Africa. Yet you give money out of your paycheck because your boss is "into that sort of thing". Theist or atheist, it is people like you that live their life high and mighty pushing others on an internet forum and making fun of people that do something about the suffering of others not because they have too or feel the need to, but because they want to help.

bingo!!!

people who say "i like to thank jesus" are just saying it to look good

Some people are. I think it is kind of pointless, and I try not to judge, for rappers to sing about killing and sex and then thank God for their accomplishments while gripping their diamond studded platinum gold cross necklace.

Supermarkets and convenience are animalistic attitudes? I am not murdering or stealing because there is no need too...unlike your statement that it is "simply fun or human nature."

yes, convinience is an animalistic attitude. Look at the hunting behaviors of any predator. They dont stick around where there's only 1 or 2 animals for them to hunt, they go where the most amount of food is, because it's easier. And stealing is a totally man-made concept that in nature had no real meaning.

People get drunk off their ass and do all kinds of **** on Saturday night, then go to church the following Sunday. That's why I don't take too much stock in the whole thing.

Pretty much. And then you have the old ladies who made fun of everybody during the actual service.

Just curious, what made you change?
A lot of things, but to put it simply the hypocritical, petty and judgmental attitudes of the congregation coinciding with my approaching the Bible with the same critical analysis as I do with everything else that I read. If you read it truthfully instead of blindly believing it to be infallible, you'll find that most of the arguments used to support 1 Timothy 3:16 are circular and fallacious.

Reminds me of the one about the three ministers that decided to confess their sins to one another. The first admitted to stealing from the collection box. The second one admitted to having an affair with a woman from another town. The third one says, "I must confess, my sin is gossiping, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF HERE!"

That pretty much sums up my experience with organized religion.

So a little two year old girl who is diagnosed with cancer has evil within her heart? But Mary J Blige's heart is filled with righteousness.

I understand what your saying dude, but you have to realize, it was
Mary J Blige's talent that got her her grammy, just because she chose to thank Jesus doesn't mean he had anything to do with it.

It's this exact judgmental attitude that started me questioning everything to begin with. Did you decide to omit the fact that I didn't HAVE to give, or that I served as a full time minister and a missionary for two years? I gave up a prominent high paying job and career to do so. I still help people and give wayyy too much sometimes to the detriment of my family, not because I have to but because I care. The difference between now and then is I don't need to believe in an invisible man in the sky to be self-sacrificing.

correct, but it is pompous on her part to think that God would have something to do with something so trivial.

I've decide that after this post, I hate you less than I do most people...lets go make out at Darlings Bend :o

less talk, more making out :cmad:

HEY! HEY! HEY! Don't touch that! You can touch this part of my body but God is going to be mad if you touch that part and then he won't let me into heaven with the angels.

My wife's watching the Grammys while I chill out here. And as always on those inane awards shows, some insipid performer has to thank Jesus for giving them a stupid statuette. And somewhere a child starves to death. It is so ridiculous to think that any deity be it Jesus, God, Allah or Vishnu would 1) give a f;;ck about a stupid award, 2) allow evil to persist but bless entertainers for doing something as unimportant in the grand scheme of things as carry a tune.

I hate everyone.
Not much else you can say about that except...

God doesn't exist. *thumbs up* Welcome to Reality.

Killigore is just mad because Jesus doesn't love him
