Violent video games have been getting lots of flak over the years, but with this news, the flak may trickle over to competitive sport games. FIFA Soccer games may not be bloody, verbally clean, and free of rioting hooligans, but a 16-year-old boy stabbed his own dad on the neck after the two got into an argument about soccer strategies in FIFA 2009 on the PS3.

The incident, as reported by Reuters, began when the teen's father, 46, offered advice on how to improve his son's game. The discussion erupted into an argument, after which the dad turned the TV off because of the way his son, Mario, acted. In response, the teen grabbed a knife from the kitchen and thrusts it into his dad's neck.

After the stabbing, the 16-year-old went back to the kitchen and cleaned the bloody knife in front of his mother, who didn't know what was happening until she saw her husband staggering into the room clutching his neck. "I saw Mario come back into the room, he seemed calm, he went to the sink and I noticed him washing a knife," the mom told the local newspaper. "Then my husband came into the room with a hand round his neck, dripping blood".

"Mario is obsessed. He’s forever playing on his PlayStation, and we bought him FIFA 2009 because we didn’t want him playing violent games," she added. After the incident, Mario shut himself in his room, then made no attempt to resist arrest when the police came in.

On the plus side, Fifa 2010 is pretty good.

This doesn't surprise me. People in Italy are crazy about soccer.

This might just be a minor issue but THE FATHER DIDN'T DIE. Perhaps a thread title change is in order?
The husband survived the attack and is recovering in hospital, while the boy went to his room after the attack and was later arrested without incident. "Mario is obsessed," his mother said. "He's forever playing on his PlayStation, and we bought him FIFA 2009 because we didn't want him playing violent games."

Oh my. His name just had to be Mario, huh? That's crazy. Believeable though. Kids and dads get crazy with video games.

There's nothing about this that's believable. This kid is clearly insane, even if Italians take soccer a bit too seriously.

I'm around 16 year old all day. I'm 15. Some kids take this stuff way too seriously. This kid must be insanse, oh yeah... but I believe it.

Really? Does the term "soccer hooligan" ring any bells? Let's face it, it's only a matter of time before that stuff is included in the game for realism.

For some odd reason, I wanted him to scream "ITS-A ME, MARIO!" before he went on his bloody crusade.

You name your son Mario and you're surprised he has a video game addiction?

The only way this would have been better is if he bludgeoned him to death with a turtle.

Good call. Misleading title is misleading.

Maybe I should let my brother win a few games incase he does this to me...

My bro is ultra-competitive and throws things and curses when he loses. But this guy reacted badly to receiving advice? Uhhh hello.
