This was what happened just a few months ago with the 20GB/60GB situation. Everyone noticed that they couldn't find any 20GB PS3s anymore, and that they weren't even on the Playstation Store anymore, yet Sony kept denying that they were phasing out the 2GB PS3.

I dont think it can really be compared as the 20gb only made up of 20% of production so its a no brainer that they sold less and were harder to find. I defiently see the 80gb being the $500 model once they get rid of the 60gb. People need to remember that the main reason why the price of that system is so high is bc it contains Motorstorm with it. Take that away, and the price goes down. Its only a limited edition and I doubt they will only sell bundles

Motorstorm is a $60 game. I somehow doubt that the removal of a $60 game will automatically mean it jumps down a full $100. It could skip down just a $50 increment, who knows.

I see the inclusion of "Motorstorm" in the 80GB PS3 as the same as the inclusion of "Talladega Knights" in the 60GB PS3 or the remote with the XBOX360 Premium: included for free for the first shipment or two and then simply not included anymore after that.

so your basically saying you really think the 20 extra gb account for $100? I highly doubt that. I think that along with Motorstorm make it $100 more. The bundle wont last forever and when it does, they will drop the price match. Maybe it will be $549 or maybe $499, but it wont stay at $599 when that does happen

See that's just it. No, the 20GB doesn't account for $100.

Sony has the 60GB for $599. They aren't selling.

Then they see that if they take out the Emotion chip, they can save money on making the system. So they take out the emotion chip, and with the money saved by not putting in the Emotion chip, they add an extra 20GB of HDD space. They sell this new 80GB Emotion Chip-lesss PS3 for $599.

But what to do with all those 60GB PS3s laying around unsold? Better cut their losses and sell them for a clearanced $100 off, just to get them sold.

They're not selling the 60GB for $499 cause they can afford it. They're selling the 60GB for $499 because they can't afford to let them rot in the warehouses anymore.

Emotion Engien and Graphics Synthesizer are the CPU and GPU of the PS2. To begin with they ahd them both in every PS3, but have since moved to software emulation (like the European PS3 models). The Ironic thing it that now their emulation is pretty much flawless, where as you'd figure Microsoft would have been the one to get emulation right, but ti was Sony.

Basically, the Emotion Engine is the PS2's Cell Engine.

It was what enabled the PS2 to have all those Toy Story-like graphics we saw all the time.

That being said the crappy comedy pack in was like a 20-30 dollar movie not a 59.99 game, and it wasn't a pack in across all regions, it was just a bonus to get peopel watching BR with their PS3 like they did with Casino Royal.
