Sequels Sony Revives 'Venom' Solo Movie

Right off the heels of Aquaman.

One or the other is going to flop. I'm leaning towards Venom, but then this is the MCU Venom...

James Wan can quite possibly pull off a good Aquaman movie. I'm giving Wan the benefit of the doubt on this one.

this is the genital herpes of comic book movies

it just keeps coming back

Do we know this isn't in the MCU? There's no issue if it's set in the MCU. It could be amazing, coming off of Infinity War. Our first r rated MCU movie. This has crazy potential that mostly goes away if it's non MCU. How stupid could Sony be though to make this not part of the MCU. You don't just put VENOM in his own universe. He needs to interact with Spidey...

I think Spider-Man should be a secondary antagonist in this with Carnage as the main villain

My sentiments exactly. I'm all for an MCU Venom film. Especially if he is an anti-hero/villain as they would benefit the MCU greatly. I'd even be all for a Rated R "Marvel Knights" area of the MCU filmverse (because lets be honest as great as Marvel/Netflix has been it's in its own universe). A non-MCU Venom would be another Sony mess.

If it's not connected to the MCU then they should cancel it. You need Spider-Man for Venom. Sony already has a live-action Spidey and will have an animated one too. Are they going to have a third Spider-Man? Jeez, has Sony learned nothing from getting involved with the MCU?

Maybe they're already setting this up in Homecoming. Perhaps Revelori's Flash will become Venom. But he won't be a physical threat. Venom will just intimidate people online and verbally.

I'm right there with you. Under the right circumstances, this would make me elated. Currently, I'm freaking out across social media. I really am worried for this and with a release date but nothing more than a script (NOT EVEN A DIRECTOR'S BEEN CHOSEN), I'm concerned this is a rush job.

Alex Kurtzman is the director apparently. Doesn't exactly inspire more confidence.

Ideally this would be set in the MCU. Spider-Man could encounter the symbiote in Infinity War, then Venom could deal with that whole black suit storyline at the beginning, seeing as Venom's origin is so tied to Spider-Man, I think Spidey has to appear

I hope to God this is connected to the mcu

Agreed. But I don't think it is set in the MCU, I think it's it's own thing.

Maybe this is all a negotiating tactic from our friends over at Sony. "Give us a piece of Infinity War or we'll release a non-MCU Venom movie!! Ari's insane, you guys. You don't want to see what he'll come up with zero lead time and a pail of primo cocaine!!"

This is also not tied to the MCU whatsoever. Arad is still on this after all.

Which pleases me greatly. Guaranteed to be a disaster with him heading it.

The fact that they got the Alien Covenant writer proves to me that they're not ****ing around.

That's genius.

Not really a big fan of Flash Thompson as Agent Venom. I could never connect with his character or even his angle in any stories he has been in.

I have been seeing people get upset about the possible chance that Eddie Brock would be coming back to be Venom in this. I get it to a degree. Most of the character is based around Peter Parker/Spider-Man and some feel he has no character depth aside from that. And after seeing SM3, most would be like, "WHY?"

I think it would be good to redeem Eddie Brock and his Venom. We don't need a complete origin story. Perhaps some hints of the origin every now and then. And he just goes off and does his own thing for the movie. If it deals with Flash, I think it would require much more time to tell that story and would need a two film deal to do so appropriately.

Btw, has anyone else been reading that "THEORY" that the movie, "Life" is a supposed VENOM prequel??

Yeah that's hot garbage. That's like Cloverfield being some sort of hidden Voltron prequel.

LMFAO! Oh man....I would **** my pants. Not in a good way either, especially since I am a big fan of the Cloververse and Voltron itself.

MCU will never go dark = venom will never connect to mcu

You're welcome to call venom DOA if you dont like this fact.

I only want Venom if the symbiote is brought in through Peter getting it from an alien clothes-making machine.

More than likely to happen if done by the MCU. Definitely not going to happen with Sony's Venom.

THR MARCH 04, 2016:
Spider-Man' Spinoff 'Venom' Revived at Sony (Exclusive)
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, stewards of the 'Spider-Man' properties, are producing and overseeing the new film, which will be written by 'Edge of Tomorrow' scribe Dante Harper.
Borys Kit said:
Now that Sony has set Spider-Man on its rebooted path, the studio is setting its sights on other Spider-Man franchises. Case in point: Venom.

Sony has tapped Dante Harper to pen a script for Venom, something that is being envisioned as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, among stewards of the Spider-Man properties, are producing and overseeing the project.

It is unclear which Venom incarnation is being used for the new project.

This Venom is meant to not only stand on its own but to also launch its own franchise.

Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing Venom for Sony’s Columbia label.

Harper is an up-and-coming scribe who wrote Edge of Tomorrow, the time travel sci-fi movie that starred Tom Cruise. He also co-wrote Sleepless Night, the crime thriller that stars Jamie Foxx and Dermot Mulroney.

 I saw an article saying he was?
That article was incorrect. On twitter a reporter from one of the trades said there is no director. It was just assumed that Alex kurtzman was the director because that what was happening at first.
