The Dark Knight Source Stands behind Penn, Hoffman Scoop

I was never sold on Hoffman as the Penguin. He's an alright actor, but I'll always remember him as the guy from "Boogie Nights". Towards the beginning of summer, he was getting all this praise for playing the villain in "M:I-3". So I saw it, and I just thought, "That's it?" The way they were building up his performance, you'd think he outdid Gert Frobe in Goldfinger or something.

Now Hoskins...he can be a charming, virtuous character in movies, but when he plays villains...menacing. Just the way he grits his teeth and barks, has the audience on the edge of their seats. The guy has a Cagney quality that'd be great to see in a Batman movie.

I think Hoffman was getting praised for MI3 because it was his first role as a villian.
He is the only reason I plan on renting and watching it.

I don't want to go on the BOF bash band wagon because i like the site, have it bookmarked and check it as often as i can.However i feel now that some of the info, news, rumors, scoops or whatever posted with regards to TDK has been proven to be either false or inaccurate they should perhaps consider being more carefull with what they post in future.Rumors are fun but all too often it causes a stir for no reason at all.

I hope they get Bob Hoskins as penguin if Hoffman can't be convinced.

LOL... take for example the fact that I do not know Stephen Hawking personally; does that mean I cannot form an opinion of him based on his writings? Of course not: It is a fundamental part of human culture that we form opinions based on secondary experiences, and those opinions—assuming they are based on accurate sources and material—are no less valid than had they come from personal experience.

Im not sold on Penn or Hoffman either and I could care less if they're Oscar winners or not as long as they fit characters.

Many Oscar winners also have bad performances pre and post Oscar.

If BOF didn't report everything the could on the next Batman (rumor or not), I believe they have lost their purpose.

All these people who are suggesting Hoskins, I see what you're getting at, I really love the guy.. but didn't Hoskins already say he would never consider it and that he actually thought it was a bit insulting that he had come to people's minds for the part?
