South Park Sheep

The problem comes from allowing yourself to be influenced politically by comedy shows, without doing your own research into an issue. If see something on South Park or some other comedy show that you agree with, I think you should consider the source and do your own research into the issue. Taking cues just from comedy shows is just silly, they are not supposed to be serious.

Again, I don't see how it's silly. Yes, they're a comedy show. How does that instantly make them less informed? If they're a good comedy show, they would have done some research into the subject.

it's a cheap way to appeal to a wider demographic, liberals think it's "all in good fun" conservatives think "yeah...they totally agree with me" and trey and matt avoid taking any real stance on any issue.:down

Sorry man, but it's the american talking from you. You guys really got used to only having two parties, that you think you can only be on one of the "two sides of the fence", and if an opinion if not "Conservative" or "Liberal" with capital letters, then it's just doesn't matter, cuz "they're just too coward to take a stance.).

But if you think about having only two alternatives, two asnwers to every question, - it's appealing, because it makes politics as complicated as a football match or reality show and everybody can vote for the same party all the time, without really understanding or even thinking about the issues.

It's a problem at my country too. 8 years ago we used to have 9 parties or so in the parlament. Now, we have two giants and two tiny ones, that are the extensions to those giants. And nobody really likes those parties, but we have no alternative, because most people already thinking about politics in the same dualist way.

So yeah, a show with an opinion that can't be fit into the Liberal or Conservative box is bound to be called "middle ground" by some people.

I agree. We should definitly have a mix and match type party...some of my views are extremely conservative, others liberal, but we only have an either/or system right now.

I would much prefer a show put both views forward than an extremely one sided point which is detrimental to the show (ie american dad is so far left it's ******ed).

LOL:)

Really now that had as much bite as toothless old carney. Really, do five minutes of research on South Park, you will discover that the Libertarian themes are pretty well clear in most episodes.

Again with comedy the point is make something entertaining, not politically thought provoking, that would be an after thought. If joke often works by creating sterotypes of certain characters, twisitng events to make them more humourious rather than realstic. Thus to make a point and tell joke, the oppoents will be reduced to characitures, because that is funny. Again comedies are not supposed to be serious, so they will often sacerfice objectivity with satire, sterotypes and characitures to tell the joke, which is fine, but not a good basis for a politcal belief system.

I don't think comedy is supposed to be anything. There are so many types of comedy a single person can't even comprehend it.

That's not true at all. Yes, comedy is supposed to be entertaining. But it can also be politically thought provoking at the same time.

Something can be humorous and (relatively) realistic at the same time. The woirld is a rather absurd place.

Again, that's not true at all. Funny doesn't mean it's stupiud. Funny doesn't mean they don't have a point. Funny doesn't mean they're uninformed. Funny just means funny.

LOL, you keep saying "you will discover", and "do five minutes of research" it's laughable, see, let me clue you in.

1.- I own most south park boxed sets.
2.- I know what the libertarian party stands for.
3.- I have enough of a brain to recognize the absence of clear stances on the episodes.

it doesn't matter what ideology the creators profess.
is that concept like...too difficult to grasp for you?
