Animation South Park

So I guess they're releasing them biweekly now? Whatever works to avoid burnout with the one week time crunch. This is the strongest start the show has had in about a decade so it'd be awesome if they can keep it up throughout the whole season.

Hating Trump means more ratings... But does that mean people hate Trump? :exp:

The Tegridy Farms saga is finally done?! I never thought this day would come!

And I'm glad that for once, compared to the previous two, this episode kept the Trump stuff to a minimum. It's funny, but distracting and takes away from the actual South Park stuff. Never mind that the boys haven't had much focus (Cartman's depression in the premiere felt more like a B-plot), even though Randy is basically the show's main character now. But nice for the main plot to focus on Randy and Towelie.

One of the Paramount+ specials had Randy going back to being a geologist but they kind of dragged the Tegridy Farms arc out way too long. I'd rather see Randy get into random one-off adventures like he used to that have nothing to do with the farm.

With all two-week breaks, it'd be nice to get an episode around the four boys, if it's not too much trouble! Remember Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny? Whatever happened to those guys? Sure, Stan was in the last episode, albeit more Randy-focused, and Cartman had his depressive episode with Butters tagging along, but so far, the boys feel like background characters in their own show.

There's nothing wrong with giving spotlight to characters to Mackey or bringing back folks like Towelie, but let's see the boys get into some wacky misadventure. While funny, Trump 24/7 gets old fast, much as it did with Garrison in Season 20- and even then, Garrison wasn't even in every episode. Unless there's a reveal that Trump here actually is Saddam in disguise.

Matt and Trey have basically gone on record saying that the show's gotten more Randy-centric as they've gotten older but they do need to focus more on the boys within the actual show. They've given them more stuff to do in the Paramount+ specials but those are their own separate thing. The last couple of seasons of the show were underwhelming anyway even with the stories that revolved around the kids, like the BB gun episode or Cartman living in a hot dog.

The Trump bashing has been hilarious and on point but I'd love a back to basics story with just the kids harkening back to the ninja episode or the pirate episode from back in the day.

Oh, no argument here. Randy is effectively the show's main character at this point. Even in episodes about the boys, Randy will inevitably get involved.

Sometimes it works, like in the Airsoft episode, but as the show has progressed, Randy shares about as much screen time as his son, if not more.

Well, all I'll say about this episode is that maybe now Damien will have someone to be friends with.

And hey, an appearance by Cartman and Kenny? Wow! Maybe in two weeks, Matt and Trey will remember that Kyle and Stan exist, too!

I'll forgive the lack of the main four boys in this episode since Butters is pretty much an honorary member of the main group. The Butters Labubu storyline was hilarious.

That's fair, and sure, Butters did have a plotline with Cartman in the premiere, but again, all the Trump stuff, while funny at times, is sucking the air out of the room and makes the four boys feel like side characters. Everyone loves- and knows it's- Butters, but even in episodes that are mostly about him, like Raisins or Awesom-O the other boys did appear and have something to contribute.

Admittedly, I was hoping that Dougie playing with Butters potentially meant a return of Professor Chaos and General Disarray.

The Trump stuff is likely going to be the ongoing story for the rest of the season. It's provided some funny moments but it's been gradually less notable with each new episode after how hard the jokes in the first two episodes hit. But I'd still rather a background story over the course of the season rather than an uninteresting main one stretched out over the whole season like what happened in 2016.

I do miss seeing the boys all together but the show is different now than it used to be. At this point the show is just as much about the side characters as it is about them, like Randy, Butters, Mr. Garrison, Mr. Mackey, etc. I'd rather watch a good episode centered around them than a mediocre one centered with the kids shoehorned into it. I'm sure they'll have at least a few episodes centered around them before the end of the season.

Outrage over what? The Cartman Charlie Kirk episode was a one-off, he was back to normal in the most recent one. I doubt they're going to bring it up at all.

Considering the climate, outrage is almost impossible to avoid with the right at the moment.
They are upset and fake outrage over everything currently.

They literally got upset over Bethesda for posting a gif from the Indiana Jones game, with a cat.

Not to mention that even though Steve Irwin's death was an accident, there was still a bit of a reaction when they included Steve Irwin in an episode- with a stingray in his chest- in the Hell on Earth episode. It was done as a joke, and even Matt and Trey on the commentary didn't think there was any reason for people to be upset, but people were still rattled by it.

That said, it is very telling that there's been no teaser or preview for tonight's presumably new episode. Matt and Trey could easily just not bring it up since, sure, it was a one-off, but considering how the main thread this season has been 'Trump this, Trump that' (which I still find annoying because it's taken attention away from the boys), coupled with the shooting, I imagine it's less Matt and Trey being unsure, and more the higher-ups at Comedy Central and Paramount.

IIRC this has happened before but due to a power outage. There's no way they wouldn't have had a new episode in the can with a two week production period. This is definitely on Paramount.
Yeah, I'm pulling a Kyle and calling shenanigans!

I mean, not entirely. But these are the same guys who had an Obama 2008 election ready to go the day after the election. Admittedly, Matt and Trey said they didn't know what they would've done if McCain won because they only made one version of that episode- the one we got- but the point is that Matt and Trey can get something ready at the last second if needed. If anything, the two-week delay should mean the team has even more time to get an episode ready.

So while maybe it is a production delay, I can't help but wonder that there's more to this.

I can believe either side of that claim. They waited too long or Comedy Central censored them. At this point either is plausible.

Jimmy Kimmel's brother also works on South Park. I wonder if they caught wind of that news early. Not saying that had anything to do with the new episode being delayed but the timing is interesting.
