Trying to grasp the size of the universe?

I don't get how astronomers determine sizes... I mean don't we only see a small fraction of the universe anyway? Light from other places never reaches us.

That's cool.

Does anybody watch The Universe on The History Channel? It's an amazing show.

yea I do. Did you see the one with the search for alien planets? They showed the different stars and planets that revolved around them. It was amazing!

You know what, I would love to be a volunteer to be the first human to land on Mars. If they ever took volunteers, I'd be the first one in line. :o

Agreed, excellent show.

Also, it seems NASA's recent mission is about to land on Mars.

Phoenix lander to touch down on Mars
that reminds me, back when i was a young'n i was a huge space fan....and i got home from soccer practice....i went on the computer to see how Spirit (the rover) was doing...it was landing that very second...for about an hour i listened to the Nasa people and saw the pcitures that it released....it was so cool. oh the meories :single Tear:

I was watching some alien videos of the Roswell incident on Youtube and it was interesting but not like the entire videos were true..

Who knows...

*sighs* I still believe there are aliens out there in the universe.

You know what's messed up? When they look at images of stars 32 lightyears away, that means you're actually looking at what the star looked like 32 years ago...

I just think that's cool! :cmad:

Did you know that Saturn has a hurricane in the shape of an almost PERFECT hexagon at it's North Pole that's larger then the entire diameter of the Earth!?

:wow: No I didn't! Did you know that out of all the satellites in our solar system, Titan has the best chance to support life?

I heard! :( But I also heard that there's a rumored planet a little further outside of Pluto. So yeah, I did my homework. :)

Yes, this is true. The vast distances of space are almost unimaginable.

Also true.

Neptune is to cold. No way there could be life there. Titan is rumoured to have water and rivers. I think they actually have great images from the planet showing its true. Did you see the planet they discovered that had the exotic water and very much Earth like and is only like 20 light years away IF that.

Titan is one of Saturn's moons. I wonder if it's possible that life is there but completely different from our own here on Earth. Maybe the Roswell aliens are from there. ..........This is what happens when you drink to much. :(

I wish we could build space ship capable of entering light speed and go to wherever we can go in deep space...

I know...It's mind blowing.
That means...if we develop FTL travel, we could still see our sun after it explodes...
That's CRAZY!

I think we just have to develop wormhole technology or teleportation. Traveling faster than light maybe impossible becuase our bodies can't handle it but wormhole/white hole technology isn't. That's our best bet.

Saturn has so many moons, there's no telling what's on them.
But if life is going to be on any moon on the solar system, it's going to be Europa.
It would have to be marine life, but hell...it's life outside of Earth.

Isn't Europa a Saturn moon? It seems like everything is pointing in that direction. Plus I don't believe that life would be exactly like it is on Earth. Who's to say we won't meet aliens who breath carbon dioxide or methane? Or who love cold or really hot temperture?

It's a moon of Jupiter.
I hate that everyone's misconception about life is that it has to be carbon based.
