SPARTACUS: Gods of The Arena

Due to a DVR malfunction, I didn't get to see the end of this until today. It was very very good. It's a shame we have to wait until next year to see more. :( I admit I never saw the ending coming, the part where Gannicus was freed. What is he goiing to do now?

They could probably do a whole show around the adventures that Gannicus gets's into, now that he's free. Anyhow, good finale.

I'm going to miss Batiatus in season 2. His ''...in ass" dialogue made the show special to me.:)

If the shows creators had known this was going to be so successful, we would have got a full season, instead of 6 eps; but this was just supposed to be filler until Andy got better....oh well.

There is so much blood and death in the show I honestly didn't expect such an obviously cliche ending, but it works to great effect because of this. I really enjoyed this show.

I saw episodes 5 and 6 last night. That was crazy. I LOVED the tournament at the end of episode 6. It was awesome. It was great seeing how Crixus and Lucretia got involved and why. Also the famous short hair on Crixus was nice to see too. I'm glad Gannicus lived and got his freedom. It will be interesting seeing him in season 2 and joining Crixus and Spartacus in the rebellion. I'm so looking forward to the next season and seeing how the new actor will do. I'm sure he'll be great just like how Andy was.

I just hope he doesn't chop off all of that lovely long hair. :p

The problem is that Doctore still doesn't know about Amelita's betrayal with Gannicus. That's going to have to come out sooner or later if Gannicus is coming back.

The thing is now that Amelita dead and both Doctore and Gannicus have moved on...is there a point in bringing back that plot thread? Yes, Gannicus betrayed his friend, but he still very clearly cares for and values his friendship with Doctore. I think they should just let the "betrayal" story be and move on.

It feels like so much time has passed between the end of the prequel and the end of the first season that there's no point in bringing up Amelita's death. Of course they could do it for the drama and show bickering among the rebellion so I'd be happy either way.

I find myself agreeing with this. If Gannicus is returning, that will definitely come into play. I hope Doctore manages to be the bigger man and let bygones be bygones though.

But then again, he is one of those bound by honor type of characters so he might wanna have words with Gannicus about the whole banging his wife thing.

I checked out Andy's replacement on youtube and I'm afraid I'm not feeling it...:csad: Hope that changes as season 2 goes on.

Prison Mike and kguillou, just keep in mind that this is SPARTACUS. This show NEVER moves on from things like that and never leaves it be.

Case in point, Naevia's friend being brought back to be executed on the arena grounds. I thought her leaving and getting free was going to be it for her, but now she was brought back just to be gruesomely killed.

I'm glad they stuck to history and freed gannicus instead of killing him off. In history he went on to be one of spartacus' best generals. Can't wait to see that.

It sucks not knowing anything about this particular story in history. Why the F didn't they teach me this in elementary or high school!? This is the kind of history I find interesting. Get that War of 1812 garbage outta here :cmad:

I find wikipedia somewhat useful in this type of situation.

because they don't need to, there's a movie!

I just finished GOTA, and it was great... much much much better than blood and sand. The lower production value of BandS was really taking me out of the mood of the show. This is much improved upon in GOTA, including the fights, lighting, use of set etc. It's just much better in GOTA than in BS.

When the show returns, things are gonna get real. I wonder how they will deal with the background information... this revolt is central into the rise and formation of the Roman empire. So I'm really hoping that Gracchus, Crassus, Ceasar and Pompei are introduced properly. As much as the story of Spartacus is awesome, it's the results of his rebellion that are of even greater fun. And I hope this is not lost on producers.

Yeah, I can and do look this kind of stuff up on wikipedia, but a chapter on The Servile War would have made me actually pay attention in history class.

Eh, a great deal of history could potentially be made to be interesting (although I'm in agreement that the more modern we get the more ****ing boring things are) but take comfort in knowing that your teacher probably would have screwed up even a story as great as this.

Two reasons modern history sucks:

1. The most recent history is filled with so much political correctness that is smothers the real story you arer trying to learn. With ancient history you can tell it like it is, because who are you gonna offend?

2. Recent history is old men setting in congress fussing and being unable to make a move without fearing they will lose re-election.

Back then people didn't give a flying ****. If you got in there way they invaded, killed, and burned everything in sight. If you didn't fall in line they invaded, killed, and burned everything in sight. Pretty much they did what ever was in their best interest. They didn't care what other countries and men thought. They did what they wanted to. Take Alexander for example: he conquered nearly the entire known world at the time simply because he wanted to. Today in America we can't even win a war, because we are terrified someone might think badly of us and that some people might not get to set their fat ass in congress for another useless term. Its sickening.

Wow! What a great little series. I wish it had been 12 episodes but this was a good story of Gannicus. I was a little surprised with the ending scene though. It seemed out of place but I guess it was a setup for season 2.

The arena special effects were pretty bad but the costumes, dialog, and acting on this show is top notch.

I hope the next series, with the new actor for Spartacus, keeps up with the high quality of this show.

so i just finished the first season, sweet. I know where krixis is going

I agree with most of what you stated. But the problem that modern countries have to deal with is the global economic market. All the countries in the world are now tied and in some way dependent on each other. So perception matters more now than it did for Alexander who had no connection to the region he was invading.

I was rewatching 30 days of night and Crixus is in it...lol.

I rewatched season 1. The scene where Spartacus jumps up to kill Batiatus in the season finale still gets my heart pumping. Can't wait for season 2.

Does the actor who played Ashur in Spartacus do the latest Wendy's fish sandwich commercial? It looks an awful lot like him. :yay:
