SPARTACUS: War of the Damned! Final Season!

That was a great episode!

Spoilers follow...

One hell of a send off for Crixus, he couldn't of asked any better than that. I really liked Caesar's scheming, and seeing Spartacus out-wit Marcus again was fun. Also, awesome to see Agron return, I was sure he was done for.

Me thinks Spartacus' decision to not run for the hills won't end well, but I guess it's the old "Better to die free than live a slave" logic going on there.

Based on the preview it looks like they saved the budget for the final battle. It looks better than any other one that has been in the show.

It looks like it'll be the most epic battle.

Killing Tibby was probably the worst possible tactical decision ever. Spartacus didn't even consider saving him until Caesar showed up. I would have dragged him along as I marched. There's no possible hope for Spartacus and that was his one and only bargaining chip.

Who is the blond that make out with Caesar ?

I think she was one of those slaves he had sex with before an the other one was killed by Tiberius' men.

But, the trade happened anyway due to Kore taking Tiberius' place.

I don't know how Agron is even still alive. The thing with crucifixion is that if you don't support the feet, the victim dies quickly from suffocation because of the way you hang. They never braced his feet in any way I could see. Unless they took him down like an hour later maybe, he'd be a gonner.

Funny you should mention that, because I noticed that Argon's arms were supported the entire way along by kind of make-shift straps. Usually the hands/forearms are nailed and the victim is left to die, aren't they? I took note of the 'straps' because it seemed peculiar, but maybe they were used for that very reason -to keep him alive longer, prolong the suffering.

I do recall reading (in my Christianity studies) that sometimes they did use the straps when they nailed the hands. Most times they nailed the wrists because it held the victims up more easily, the hands could tear free without additional support. But they pretty much always supported the feet like I said so they wouldn't die fast, or if they did want them to die fast, they would break the legs to expedite the process. (It still amazes me that one human could do this to another and keep a straight face, but whatever. It's all so terribly cruel and sad. :(

Hmm...I guess Spartacus has never really been known for it's realism :D

It was sad when Xena was crucified and legs broken.

i assume spartacus will die in the final? accrding to history, crassus defeats him and kills all slaves captured...

I'm assuming Spartacus will die, a kind of be-with-his-wife/glorious death type deal. It would be kind of neat if they decided to ignore it and have him go on his merry way, but I very much doubt it.

he was reportedly seen being killed on the battlefield, but his body was never found.

the writers said the ending will be surprising. a surprising ending to me would be him living.

Wow. That was pretty much a near perfect episode. It would have been perfect if Sibyl had tripped and fallen off the cliff never to be heard from or spoken of again and if Nasir and Agron had a longer reunion.

I really appreciated all the "shout outs" to the past, both in terms of the "gladiator games" and the spoken references to Crixus, Doctore, Mira, Sura, etc.

While I fully expected for Spartacus' rebels to be killed off one by one each week leading to the finale, I do appreciate seeing them all together (with the exception of Crixus) for the final and most important battle. It will be a glorius end for them all, although I do hope that some of them manage to survive even if that does somewhat contradict the historical records.

I'm really going to miss this show once it is finished. Da Vinci's Demons just doesn't hold the same gladiatorial appeal, although Incursion does sound remotely interesting. I haven't heard anything about the Caesar spin-off, but I wouldn't expect any formal planning to commence until after they have the full ratings history for the final season of Spartacus.

Agron is a BMF that's why.

I agree. Everyone is expecting he is either directly killed or will be one of the many survivors crucified to line the Appian way (as the Kirk Douglas one did it). The latter seems unlikely as Caesar already knows exactly what he looks like so there's not gonna be any repeat of the famous "I am Spartacus" scene from the old film.

The only 'surprise' ending I can think of is that he does somehow survive.

Though Spartacus wouldn't have known it (unless Kore told him), Crassus was willing to risk his son's life with Decimation, so beyond the trade offered in this episode (500 survivors from Crixus' troops) Crassus would not have let Tiberius be used as too big a bargaining chip.

The moment he remotely threatened Crassus' chances of victory he'd have told Spartacus to do what he wanted with him.

And fitting the little s##t died from being stabbed in the back.

By far the best ep of the entire series. I loved every aspect of it.

Sad that there's only one left.

Am i the only one who feels War of the Damned is just pure lackluster? The once slaves are just as awful as the evil Romans, they have no seemingly desires of creating a civilization outside of the same evil that they mimick, such as the death arena we saw in the episode.

So many characters being just damn crazy, romantic conflicts for the sake of it and seemingly the only worthy accomplishment of this season is that they defeat Crassus, ya?

Why does this surprise you. They are all "Romans" in some sense and therefore are corrupted morally. It took invaders from the East to kill off these vermin and later Islamic influence to advance humanity in the West.

I think the hypocrisy is really interesting, unfortunately it's something the show has only touched on a little bit. Making the Roman soldiers fight for their lives wasn't too bad as a kind of one-off stunt, but instances where Spartacus' army has killed innocents (including children) definitely stand out.

Another great episode, I even cried at the end!

Defeat Crassus? Is not going to happen, Steven DeKnight said they're going to respect most of what happened historically:
Historically most people think Spartacus was crucified because that’s what happened in the Kurt Douglas movie. (Certainly) his body was never found. So we have some leeway. I can’t say, you know, we stay pretty close to history. But there will be a few surprises in the end.

Crassus began his public career as a military commander under Lucius Cornelius Sulla during his civil war. Following Sulla's assumption of the dictatorship, Crassus amassed an enormous fortune through real estate speculation. Crassus rose to political prominence following his victory over the slave revolt led by Spartacus, sharing the Consulship with his rival Pompey the Great.

The finale should be epic, tragic and it seems it will be, Steven DeKnight is already tweeting fans should be ready to cry.
With extra salt. RT @Spartacus_wod your gunna make me cry big salty man tears next week aren't you?

They really shouldve given Saxa more to do during these past 2 seasons.

And I really need to know if they are doing this Ceasar spin off!

Defeat Crassus? Is not going to happen, Steven DeKnight said they're going to respect most of what happened historically:

Haha, well my history with the vast Rome has never been the best and i had forgotten the Kubrick movie.

What i'm trying to say is, the show puts the rebel slaves in a very heroic light while they truly are just the same evil as the Romans. What i mean is, i'm trying to put these into words but in gist it's about how the action sequences work out, how the slow motion always puts the slave rebels on such heroic light as they butcher their villains, as their angry speeches and insults are being attempted to being something inspiration.

What i'm trying to argue is that the show seemingly wants to be white vs. black scenario, instead of trying to show what it is: Shades of Grey everywhere.
