Which of these off-shoots from the 616/Amazing book is considered the best? The only other Spidey book I've read consistently is Ultimate. I've heard good things about Jenkins work on PP and Spectacular.

What do ya'll recommend?

Spectacular.

While Spec had some dud runs... it did have some really brilliant material... Peter Parker had a nice Jenkins run, but that's it... Web was a waste of paper filled with inane boring stories.

:yay:

Spectacular! Especially the DeMatties/Buscema stuff from the early 90's.

Spectacular.

Web of Spider-Man had a real hard time finding it's footing for a long time. They experimented with a lot of different types of storytelling there and it took veteran Gerry Conway to straighten it out.

Peter Parker Spider-Man (or just Spider-Man) was garbage for about 70% of the time.

Aloha,
Agreed.
Very often Spec and Amazing tied into one another. For a while all four titles mentioned tied into each other during the Clone Saga era. I've got Web #1 signed by Stan Lee when he came to Honolulu years ago.Probably the best part of owning Web:whatever:

The Child Within storyline in Spec was awesome. Web had some gritty street level crime stories involving Hammerhead, Tombstone, Kingpin, Rose, etc. that weren't too bad. Adjective-less Spider-Man (later renamed Peter Parker Spider-Man) wasn't too bad in its early McFarlane days. Other than the Child Within, though, I didn't really get much into the other books outside of Amazing until Maximum Carnage hit...even then it was hit and miss. The Clone Saga is what really caused me to turn into a completest and start looking to fill the holes. Those crossover stories really are what made those books more popular.

I really liked the Web of Spider-Man, too. Especially the following issues:
#11-12, 40-43, 51-55, 84-89 (The Name of the Rose was epic) and the Clone Saga of course with my personal favorite Steven Butler.

Spectacular obviously, because of the dark JM DeMatteis stories that'd appear there. Sometimes it was even better than Amazing.

PP:SM had some pretty good stories. And some memorable ones, like PP:SM#75.

Web was crap about 90% of the time.

You forgot Sensational, which had a beautifully memorable Dezago/Wieringo run when Ben Reilly was Spider-Man.

I think the Sensational was a crap about 90% of the time. :)

Except for Dezago and Waid. It was the most light-hearted of the titles, fun and read like old issues of Marvel Team Up.

I also love Unlimited.
But I also loved them all... pre-reboot/renumbering...

Great. Good for you. :whatever:

I think it was quality. Ringo was an excellent, fluid penciller and sorely missed to this day, and Dezago was/is a very underrated writer. He seemed good at emotional gut-punches that came out of human moments, kind of like Paul Jenkins. I thought most of Sensational was good, but especially the Spider-Ben issues. And before Dezago/Ringo, Jurgens had a short run, which was also fun.

I dearly love their run on Spider-Man titles. They are sorely missed. :csad: (RIP Wieringo)

To me he was too cartoonist. But he deserved better than 40 years.
I am not a big fan of Waid, either. Since the Brand New Day he had the worst Spider-Man stories.

Such a rad cover! And awesome that Stan Lee signed it!

I've never read much besides Amazing and Ultimate. I've read a couple of Spectacular issues. Over the weekend I bought "Son of the Goblin" which features a couple of issues from Spectacular.

Charles Vess did quite a few covers during that time period.

I think I have the figure that was designed after the Web #1 cover. It came with the gargoyle ledge that Spidey could be mounted on.

His black suit Spider-Man vs. Hobgoblin poster is pretty awesome. From one of the 90's anniversary issues.

I miss that poster. I had it hanging up for the longest time!
I'd love to find at least a huge file of it to use as my 42" TV/LapTop WallPaper!

Spider-Man was usually pretty bad. Web of Spider-Man had its moments but over all was a pretty juvenile book. Lots of pointless, overstuffed stories.

Spectacular Spider-Man, written by John Marc DeMatteis, is pretty much gold no matter what era it is from.

Not sure if this applies here but did anyone read this mini-series? I really enjoyed the Spider-Girls. :yay:
