Spectral

Looks like a enjoyable b movie with major studio effects.

This looks actually very good. Looking forward to it. Let's hope it's not a stinker. Wouldn't be the first time a pretty good movie didn't get a theatrical release for whatever reasons (Trick 'r Treat!)

Reminds me of that crappy movie The Darkest Hour from a couple years ago with Emile Hirsch

Reminds me of that too. The initial description sounded more fun than how the trailer makes this look.

I am also intrigued by this

I like James Badge Dale

They seriously need some proton packs, looks interesting though. Almost looks like a prequel to Final Fantasy Spirits Within.

:oaww yeh finally a ghostbustin movie for the boys! can I get a fist bump?!

Just finished watching this on Netflix, I won't spoil the plot, but I will say this is definitely not a prequel to Final Fantasy Spirits Within or Call of Duty: Ghosts Busters.

I'll give a brief review. The special effects are very good, even better than some theatrical films (Looking at Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen). The action is tense at times and often only has brief pauses once it really starts. It has clear echoes of Black Hawk Down, Predator and Aliens. There are only two decent actors in it though, the lead and the Special Forces Commander, everyone else is ok. So its missing the charm of Aliens, Predator and Black Hawk Down's with its cast of interesting misfits. The characters are very poorly developed, even the lead who only has a brief introduction and barely any background. The film could have been pretty good had there been better casting and character development, but instead comes off like a live action video game. Even with its flaws it is far superior to similar films like AvP Requiem, Alone in the Dark, or Resident Evil Apocalypse.

Pretty much. It's missing the panache James Wan or someone could've given it, but it's better than the like of Resident Evil.

The film was ok. I've seen worst movies get cinema releases.

It is very plot driven rather than character driven movie. Some of the story beats are straight from Alien. The movie does a good job of not falling into well worn territory in regards to the characters but how the story is told isn't particularly original.

Some non-standard big movie choices like no romance between the female and male lead. They killed the little boy, the CIA woman wasn't shady and the science hero wasn't presented as a weak intellectual nerd.

Every actor in the film that I've seen before has shown more charisma or screen presence in other roles.

Max Martini is pretty much typecast as a military guy. He has played soldiers multiple times in his career. He could basically do this role in his sleep.

James Badge Dale also often plays soldiers and subverted stereotypes by playing a scientist.

Emily Mortimer cannot maintain an America accent. Her accent slipped multiple times in the movie.

I assume the movie is set in the near future.

The weapon and vehicle design by Weta was cool

It's like a live action remake of 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within'.

Superficially it looks like that, after watching though its nothing like it.

Its more Metal Gear Solid meets Star Trek with exotic matter being used to create a bizarre superweapon

I thought it was a decent film. they made the protagonists appropriately out of their element. wasn't expecting so many people to die, though.

I'd call it a high-end B-movie. But still a B-movie with some recognizable actors. Kind of like Equilibrium. I can see why Universal dropped it from a theatrical release.

I thought them jury-rigging all that armor and gear and weapons in a hostile zone in like 20 minutes was hilarious though. Yeah, maybe if you had Tony Stark's workshop with all the nice toys and machines in it.

I actually liked this movie.

It's like a SyFy movie, but with a much, MUCH bigger budget.

Netflix seems to have a standard with how beautifully shot their "Netflix Originals" need to be.
