Spider-Man 3 research

Hi, I’m a university student in the UK, doing some research on Spider-Man 3 audiences.

I’m interested in hearing views about what sorts of advertising campaigns you noticed around the time of the films release, and if you own any merchandise (posters, figures, games, etc).

I would really appreciate it if I could get some feedback of some genuine Spider-Man fans- you hold the power of knowledge and I am at your mercy!

I understand that some people may see this as a waste of their time; but I am offering a topic of discussion, which at the same time will assist me in my research. I am specifically interested in hearing the opinions of Spider-Man fans and would be really thankful of any feedback on the following questions:

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc?

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?

Here in the UK, the marketing of the film was plastered everywhere! It was all over the buses, on bill-boards, TV and radio. Can you remember any marketing campaigns/ploys for the release of Spider-Man 3?

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am hopeful that I may get some responses and will be extremely grateful.

and I have the playstaton games for all films too.

I'm not the biggest Spider-man collector in the world, but I like collecting merchandise

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?
I'm a BIG movie fan and merchandise shows passion for the films you love to watch.

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc?
Other than the DVD and the extras that came with it, no.
I do own other spidey video games tho.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?
I wouldn’t call myself a collector of merchandise, though I do collect Spider-Man comics. TPBs and HCs to be exact.

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?
Well, I could put it this way - Spider-Man 2 is my least favourite Spidey film yet the Dock Ock poster is also the only poster from the whole franchise that I deemed worthy of purchasing and sticking up my wall.
So I guess artistic value counts for a lot.

I’m not really paying attention to marketing campaigns other than trailers and maybe the occasional official site.
When I go into the outside world the advertisements on walls and public transport is the last thing on my mind.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?
On the net.

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?
Not really. It’s Spidey so I would’ve been there in the theater no matter how good or bad the marketing was.

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc? Yes, I own 4 Spider-Man 3 posters, the Spider-Man 3 game, I own alot of Spider-Man 3 action figures and more.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?
Defenitley, 100%

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it? It's that it's Spider-Man. I just love Spider-Man overall and I just want to buy them and I love buying them.

Here in the UK, the marketing of the film was plastered everywhere! It was all over the buses, on bill-boards, TV and radio. Can you remember any marketing campaigns/ploys for the release of Spider-Man 3? Well, there was this giant Spidey3 poster in the movie theatre, but that's all I remember seeing.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?
On Television, in stores, on food products, youtube, Internet and more.

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you? It made me feel fantastic and it did add more excitement for the film all around the world because we were seeing more and more people know about this film coming out and the film was coming closer and closer to release. Personally, I would have been at the theatre no matter what. :spidey::up:

Thanks for your replys, guys.

Can I just ask, out of all your Spider-Man 3 merchandise, if you could only keep one thing, what would it be and why?

The DVD of course.
That's kind of the whole point of it, isn't it?
What's the point of owning any Spider-Man stuff, if you don’t indorse into the story behind it, like a movie or a comic book?
Other than toys perhaps…but I’m not a kid anymore.

I own the SM3 game. Nothing else.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?

Hell yes. Collected the comics for years, but have boycotted all new Marvel comics until Quesada is fired from Marvel. Even going to sell vast majority of my comics, but keeping my Spidey comics and all my GN's.

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?

I buy Spider-Man stuff if I deem it cool. No other way to describe it.

Poster and commercials were everywhere, and SM3 shirts were in lots of stores.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?

Better question, where wasn't it advertised?

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?

I like my hero getting attention, so I liked the marketing campaign.

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc?

I only own the Spider-Man 3 DVD.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?

Yes. I have comics, TPBs, DVDs, action figures, statues, busts, posters, T-Shirts, keyrings, and mugs.

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?

The quality of the merchandise. Attention to detail etc.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Posters on buses. Ads on TV. Stuff like that.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?

TV, buses, cinemas, billboards etc.

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?

Not really. From following all the news and stuff about the movie here on the Hype, I had a feeling the movie was biting off more than it could chew.

A few snazzy posters and TV Ads were not going to change that.

Can I just ask, out of all your Spider-Man 3 merchandise, if you could only keep one thing, what would it be and why?

The DVD is the only Spider-Man 3 related item that I own. I have lots of stuff from Spider-Man 1 and 2, though.

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc?

None of that stuff. I only have the DVD.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?

Not really. I just get the DVDs and the comics.

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?

Well I get the DVDs because I want to own the movies, and I get the comics because they're entertaining. :woot:

Nah, that seems about it. Commercials, billboards, etc. The usual.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?

See above answer.

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?

Hell yeah. I remember the trailer from November 2006 got me really jazzed for the movie, and the ads released in the following spring only increased the hype even more.

Can I just ask, out of all your Spider-Man 3 merchandise, if you could only keep one thing, what would it be and why?

The DVD, to continue watching the movie whenever I feel like it.

Do you own any Spider-Man 3 merchandise, such as games, figures, posters, etc?

Just the DVD and the video game.

Would you consider yourself a collector of Spider-Man merchandise?

Not a big collector. I have a lot of the video games and the DVDs. I have a few graphic novels and a couple Marvel encyclopedias. Also, I have a Spiderman plushy toy I got a few years ago.

Apart from being a fan, what is it about the merchandise that makes you want to own it?

I love the action and story-telling of Spider-man lore.

The same as you had. There was also SM3 marketing all over the stores.

Where have you seen Spider-Man 3 advertised?

Everywhere but school and church. Even at school people sometimes wore shirts and backpack with Spidey 3 on them.

How did this marketing make you feel? Did it create more of a buzz for you?

Of course it did. I was so excited when I found out that Venom was confirmed for the movie.

Can I just ask, out of all your Spider-Man 3 merchandise, if you could only keep one thing, what would it be and why?

The DVD, because it is Spider-man 3, which is where all the other merchandise comes from. The game was okay, but I'd gladly keep the movie over it.
