Hey All,
Sorry for the pun in the title, but it was part of what I'm guessing what will happen for the next Spider-man flick.
It has been discussed that some of the ideas and themes of the 3 films have been somewhat parallel to the Superman movies (ie Superman I: Origin, Superman II: remove powers, Superman III: Dark side of hero). What if the next movie will follow suit with Superman IV: The Quest for Peace?
Don't get me wrong, the last Reeve's film had some major flaws, but I can see a theme in there... In it, Superman tackled a major social issue (ie Cold War) by using his symbol to unite the countries to get rid of their nuclear weapons.
Granted, the story could have been a lot better (a -lot- better), the idea of getting a superhero to actually become a symbol for the people and encouraging them through the hero's actions as opposed of the superhero always coming in to clean up the problems.
I wouldn't go so far as to get Spider-man to join the army, instigate 9/11 propoganda and all that jive. But I could see Spider-man face crime syndicates that plagues the city. The comics have tons of material on them (Hammerhead, Silvermane, The Rose, Kingpin, etc.). You could also see the framing of Spider-man and the death of Captain Stacy in the strain of a mob war, etc..
The producers could go a sillier root like evil corporations who want to pollute the planet (let's hope not).
Throw in a sympathic supervillain that parallels with Peter's current anguish of the movie, and you've got a masterpiece worth $300 million!
