Spider-Man: Along Came A Spider

INTRODUCTION

The following story came about after the fall out of One More Day and Brand New Day when proponents of the new status quo enumerated the reasons why Peter shouldnt be married. Originally this was a story that showed MJ doing more than crying in the living room while Peter went out webslinging. I felt that she would take on a more active role in Peter's career...not as a sidekick but more like Alfred to Bruce.
I also didnt agree with the demonic divorce. I think if Marvel wanted to break them up another means should have been used. I dont know anyone who made a deal with the devil but I know that they dont always turn out well. Peter knows Ghost Rider and should have known better. So another part of this story was to continue the relationship and the storyline as if OMD and BND never happened.
The last part of my tale came from this frustration that Spider-man's archenemy Norman Osborn became the head of SHIELD and he didnt do anything about it. If Joker became the new head of Checkmate you know damn sure that Bruce would take him down. However Peter is too busy living the single life to handle his responsibilities. However if you want to remove someone in power you just dont put on a mask and punch him...you have to have some smarts. My mantra for this story is that Spiders are ambush predators...catching you in a web and moving in for the kill when you have exhausted yourself.
Lastly I havent read a Spider-man comic in forever. So some of the characters appear in their classic forms. Eddie Brock is the anti hero Venom and Gargan is back as Scorpion.

SOON

The SHIELD Helicarrier hovers over New York City. It is a silent sentinel dedicated to freedom and justice. On the flightdeck where normally SHIELD jets launch and recover are nine figures standing over a bloody and beaten Spider-man. They are some of his worst enemies...Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, Rhino, Mysterio, Hydroman, Shocker, Boomerang and Speed Demon.
Electro gestures and large amounts of electricity leap from his fingers and pour through Spider-man's body reducing it into a charred and smoking corpse. Norman Osborn and Phineas Mason exit the island structure of the helicarrier and race towards the scene.
Norman:"Is it Peter Parker?? Make sure its him."
Phineas:"Did he survive?"
Boomerang approaches the corpse with an edged boomerang. In one fluid motion he decapitates the corpse and tosses the head at Norman Osborn who catches it.
Boomerang:"The only way he is surviving this is if he makes a deal with the devil."
Norman pulls up the mask to reveal the lifeless eyes of Peter Parker. A grim smile spreads across Norman's face.

NOW
The rain falls heavily at the Midtown cemetary as Peter Parker and his wife Mary Jane Parker stand in front of a headstone. The headstone is for Aunt May. Next to her headstone is one for Uncle Ben. A comotion is heard. They both turn to see Norman Osborn approaching them followed by a cadre of reporters and camera men. Norman hugs a stunned MJ in a sign of false grief and support.
Norman:"I was grieved to learn of the death of May Parker. I know what its like to lose a loved one to this life we chose to lead."
Norman turns to face the cameras.
Norman:"As head of SHIELD I will ensure that the local authorities will protect the loved ones of our honored masked heroes."
Norman turns to face Peter.
Norman:"I know you feel responsible. That bullet was meant for you. It is the price we pay for this double life."
Norman hugs Peter who is as stunned as his wife. Norman whispers into Peter's ear.
Norman:"You have 24 hours and then I am coming for you and your wife."
