i've been thinking that these two are sort of like each other but with hero and secret identity reversed. in parkers secret or not so secret identity he is a man who gets prepared for things. this reminds me of prep time. in his hero guise his out going personality comes through. in batman's attempts to keep his identity secret he acts as a party guy, which reminds me of spidy.

so if we get into the whole what is an act and what isn't thing about hero's. in batmans case we know he acts as a playboy. in spider-mans case he acts as a nerd. does this make batman the coolest nerd ever? does this make spider-man the coolest playboy with bad luck ever? does this make bruce wayne the coolest playboy with bad luck ever?

or are they both nerd and playboy damaged by the loss of parents and or parental figures? with the point in their life it happened being the turning point. with their situation in life making the difference.

I'm gonna get yelled at for this but whatever :D
Batman's an obsessive crazy guy with lots of money who dresses in tights and body armour and beats up people.
Spider-man isn't as obsessive or crazy and is almost always broke, but he dresses in Pjs to fight crime also, so they both have trauma related issues and need therapy (or in Batmans case a few straight jackets :D)
If I get flamed for this then those people need to lighten up.

well that's the none nice way of saying it.

Hey, I call 'em as I see 'em :D But really I don't think Spider-man would change much with therapy, he might just stop feeling so guilty all the time. Batman might have a breakdown though.

does the guilt or pain make them heroes? what would they be without it. i think peter would be a scientist. batman a doctor.

Dude, Peter Parker always was and always will be a nerd. He's not acting. He really does have an interest in all of this stuff and plus skills to boot. Bruce, however IS acting half the time. Like it was said somewhere I can't remember, Batman wears a Bruce Wayne mask.

but in hiding his strenghs he looks more pathetic than he is. people get a one sided view of his multi talent.

Spidey is a super nerd, he can just say whatever when he's in costume.

I don't see much strangeness about the characters.

Peter Parker is Spider-Man due to the guilt of his Uncle Ben's murder, and that Pete could have stopped the burglar responsible for his Uncle's murder. He didn't do that and he's driven by that guilt to go out and be Spider-Man.

Batman's parents were murdered in an alley right in front of him. Batman is more or less driven by the fact that he doesn't want that same type of thing to happen to someone else. So he trained his entire life and used the millions and millions of dollars he inherited to buy himself kick ass stuff to help him fight crime.

Peter Parker was a nerd before Spider-Man, a nerd while the spider bit him, and he was a nerd even years after putting on that Spider-Man costume. That's his personality. The only time that Peter really changes or "hides" behind anything it was how he cracked wise and nailed one liners while fighting super villains or the way wearing a mask liberated him from always being made fun of as Puny Parker.

Batman was always bad ass, heh.

They are both heroes. There are certain parallels with the characters but they are two different kind of heroes and different people.

the parrellels were strange not the characters. and even that was ironic. since most the questions i'd posed, i already had an answer in mind to. thus didn't find it strange what so ever. that was for other's benefit. i think they just have adaptive personality and use it when ever. batman has closed of most of his empathy tho. due to his experience. he rely's on concious deduction rather than subconcious like peter. which is why peter has eurika moments. batman has more experience of controlling his dark side i'd think.

Batman wasn't always badass, he made himself badass, which is, ironically, badass.
