Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse News and General Discussion Thread

Ah! But if Illumination and Dreamworks can pull in decent numbers with new properties like Secret Life of Pets and Trolls, then I think Spidey can do it.
as long as Spidey replaces Sony's Hotel Transylvania as their defacto major animated IP

I...like Hotel Transylvania. AND I WON'T APOLOGIZE FOR IT!! Seriously. I have kids, and they love them.
I liked the first one, never got around to the 3rd one
still weird to see the guy responsible for Samurai Jack & a brief Clone Wars saga is the one directing these

Yeah, I wouldn't think that Gendy Tartakovski plus Adam Sandler equals box office dollars, but here we are.

haha, the guy who famously called The Force Awakens a "glib facsimile" is the lone rotten review

I expect Armond won't be far behind with #2
He'll find it very hard to resist.

Well, given the time frame of release and the type of movie, it is all about legs.

I'll be surprised if this movie makes more than 600m worldwide. Competition is a big reason for that.
My heart want's you to be wrong, but my head thinks you may be right. As long as it makes enough for a sequel then I'm good.

If anyone plans on watching this movie PLEASE don't watch this clip. It's SO much better in the context of the film.

It is, but I can't help but to post it. It gave me goosebumps when I saw it.

The movie isn't decent or even good. It's amazing. The first time I've walked out of a Spider-Man movie in nearly 15 years really happy and fully satisfied. Super creative, gorgeous animation and a truly great Spider-Man story.

A few things.....

The end credits scene is hilarious and brilliant. Might be my favorite one ever.

Was that Cliff Robertson's voice they used for Uncle Ben? Sounded just like him.

Stan Lee's cameo was beautiful but eerie. And there's a nice tribute to both him and Steve at the end credits.

Loved this movie. Was confused in the beginning because
I recognized Chris Pine's voice IMMEDIATELY and was like, "wait, I thought this was supposed to be Jake Johnson? ....Oh." But I'm thankful it gave us the greatest musical performance of Pine's career in that Spider-Man holiday song. :funny:

Just got home a little while ago and wow! What a great year it's been for Spidey fans between Spider-Man PS4 and then this. I had a smile on my face for a good chunk of this movie.

I didn't like Kingpin's design much, my only real complaint.

A Peter Parker who actually has a relationship with Aunt May and realizes how important she is and a real M.J?

Am I the only who thinks this movie should have it's own thread under "Spider-man"? Come on they're talking about this movie being nominated for Oscars and it's at 98% on RT's. I just saw the movie and couldn't wait to visit the Spider-verse thread to follow the box office, speculate, and so on... kinda disappointing it's just in "spidey-world".

Great movie, really loved it and can't wait to see it again!

I got chills in the theater during this scene. I'm so glad I saw it in the actual film and not spoiling myself with the clip. I'm definitely going to see it again this weekend.
I avoided all clips outside of the two trailers. I plan on seeing it again before it leaves theaters

That definitely was Cliff Robertson's Uncle Ben dialogue ripped straight from the first movie. Very cool, wasn't expecting to hear the Drive Your Funky Soul song either to the SM3 dance. I like how there were direct homages to the Raimi trilogy and Homecoming but none to the Amazing movies lol.

Love how the Kingpin looked just like a Bill Sienciewicz Kingpin drawing, where he's that giant mass with a tiny head in the center. Then that almost painted flashback sequence with him drove it home even more, wouldn't be surprised if they were directly inspired by his art for Kingpin and that sequence.

Anyway, more thoughts and spoilery stuff:
Wow! I need more then wow! This was a feast of a movie, that's for sure. The animation was gorgeous, a risk well worth it. So many little things that had me going, wow, that looks great, or wow, that was cool. A great Spidey story. I was never a fan of the Spider-Verse comic story because it wasn't really any rumination on what Spider-Man meant like I was hoping it might have been, instead it was just a big action/argue-fest with energy vampires murdering lots of spider people. I thought the concept of Spider-Verse is a great one, just wasn't handled well in the comic story. I thought the potential showed with the episodes of the 90s cartoon that first really brought up the idea of spider people from different universes and how it was sort of a story about Peter's greatest challenge being overcoming a dark version of himself and finding the best in himself from it.

That's why I thought the idea of taking Miles Morales' already potent origin story and combining it with Spider-Men/Spider-Verse could be something really great if it explored what it meant to take on those responsibilities. Everybody who worked on the movie believed in those ideas and took them to their full potential, it's great to see. I think some things for Miles are really actually improved from the comics, like Uncle Aaron. That relationship is a lot more likable and the conflict of him as the Prowler is done a lot better than in the comics where he's just more of a prick who tries to use Miles. Giving Miles things like his graffiti hobby helped to make him feel real, too. The integration with that into his Spidey suit was a perfect touch, and that whole scene where he takes his leap of faith is a standout, with the cherry on top being the comic book cover at the end with Sara Pichelli art. Glad I didn't see that scene before watching the movie.

Spider-Gwen kicked butt, such a faithful translation I was also amazed by the peek into her world looking ripped right out of her comics. Older Peter had a great arc, good decision to give us a Peter pretty much having a mid-life crisis where' he's lost his mojo and the things that mattered to him but finds it again. I'd love to see Peter and MJ on screen married with a kid (I'll take either Mayday or Annie, Mayday probably moreso please!). Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and Peni Parker weren't there much but they were nice and would like more of them. 2099 as well, give me more of him!!!

Great film, gotta see it again soon! Best animated Spidey film ever (lol)! I gotta let it marinate but there's not really anything I can think of to complain about, definitely up there as far as Spidey movies go and comic book films in general as it carves a solid spot for itself with a great unique voice. I'll say it- better than Homecoming. Better than a Marvel Studios Spidey movie, what.
